MAY 19, 1960 – “One of the most unusual plays in baseball took place during Nashua High’s victory over Stevens at Claremont yesterday.

“A Stevens batter had popped a high ball over the plate and NHS catcher Frank Ulcickas unmasked to make the catch. But the ball went so high that he lost sight of it. He continued his search and at the last moment stuck out his bare hand and plop, there was the ball.”

MAY 19, 1975 – “The undefeated Boys Club of Nashua varsity hockey team ran its record to 15 straight recently at the expense of the Boys Club staff. The 11-10 win was climaxed by a booming Al Bednarz slapshot with five seconds remaining.”

MAY 19, 1985 – “A short-tempered umpire and use of a new high school baseball rule cost Milford Area High School a forfeit to Spaulding of Rochester when coach Bill Dod was ejected from the game Friday night.

“Spaulding led 2-1 and was batting in the bottom of the third when a potential double play grounder to shortstop resulted in a possible interference call at second.

” ‘In my opinion, the guy (runner) pulled my second baseman down,’ Dod said. ‘The umpire asked me what I was doing on the field and I told him I was protesting the lack of an interference call. He told me I was out of the game.’

“The ejection means an automatic forfeit according to a recent rule revision.

” ‘I feel bad for the kids,’ Dod said. ‘It was a good game and I’m frustrated that this cost them the game.’ “
