Floating down a lonesome stream of consciousness, each day wondering a bit more if Rob Gronkowski’s defection from the Patriots was a lock well before he announced an end to his abbreviated retirement …

Now that the American Legion baseball season has been scrapped, prepare for a parade of other summer baseball seasons hitting the skids. As said by New Hampshire Legion baseball chairman Richard Harvey of Hudson put it, “This is our only course of action.”

Common sense demanded the decision. The objective was solely the health of the players, managers, coaches, umpires and all the others involved in the program. The difficulty was taking something priceless away from the ballplayers for whom this would have been their final baseball season. …

Unless there is a Powerball fortune headed your way, forget it. The bidding opened at $75,000 Sunday and reached $500,000 by noon Monday. The auction will last another 11 days. …

In an interview reported by TMZ Sports, linebacker James Harrison’s brief time with the Patriots in 2018 was long enough to figure out where Gronkowski’s head was at. While filming a commercial with Gronkowski last November, Harrison said he was “convinced” that the extra-large Manny Ramirez of football would be playing again in 2020. He just didn’t think it would be with Tampa Bay – until Tom Brady landed there.
