April 30, 1965 – “Tired, disheveled and weary – but deliriously happy with the knowledge they have broken all existing basketball marathon records – a very sleepy group of Nashua youngsters went to bed today shortly before 1 a.m. After playing for 36 hours and 25 minutes in the old YMCA gym on Temple St.

“The game started Thursday at 11:50 a.m. After Mayor Mario J. Vagge wished the boys luck and tossed the ball inbounds to start the contest. It ended at 12:15 this morning.

“Playing for the Blue Team were Larry Jean, Scott Conrad, Mike Richards, Paul McLaughlin, and Paul Delude. For the White Team, Ray Chantal, Dave Tong, Ray Boucher, Dick Lloyd and Jerry Delude played.”

April 30, 1980 – “If you can measure the success of a clinic by the number of persons who who show up, then last night’s John Smith soccer clinic was a success. An estimated 250 soccer crazies came to Labine Field to learn a bit more about developing their skills in the sport they love.

“Smith is, of course, the English placekicker for the New England Patriots and a good one to boot (ouch). You know what they say about those NFL kickers. A little touched in the head, they say. They gotta be, because of the intricacies of their particular phase of the game.

“Smith is one kicker who’ll never fit that mold.

“Kids look up so much to pro athletes,” Smith says, “and so many represent themselves terribly to youngsters. Being in pro sports is a big responsibility to give a good example and to help the development of youth.”

APRIL 30, 2019 – “The Bishop Guertin Cardinals won the battle of the undefeated and moved to 8-0 with a 7-4 win over Londonderry. Stephen McClendon got the win on the mound for Guertin, going five one third innings allowing eight hits and two earned runs, while striking out four. Noah Therrien got the save, going one two thirds with four strikeouts.

McClendon helped his own cause offensively going 2 for 3 with an inside the park home run and three RBIs. The Cardinals also had great offensive performances from Brett Anderson (2 for 3, double, home run, two runs, two RBIs), Aiden Coyne (2 for 5, two runs) and Billy Gonya (2 for 4, double, run, RBI).”
