This just in: NBA players will receive 25% less in their paychecks beginning May 15.

How are they possibly going to get by?

Now, to begin this morning’s journey …

APRIL 18, 1955 – “All five members of the Nashua Young Men’s Athletic club weightlifting team won places in yesterday’s New England Open meet held here, topping the field of 40-some entries and shattering two New England records and three state records. A throng of 125 people sat in on the festivities.

“The Nashuans copped three first places and two seconds in the various weight divisions and then combined forces to annex the first-place trophy by piling up a total of 19 points.

“Winning top honors for the locals were Rene Lebrun, Ralph Boucher and Ralph Raymond. Normand Levesque and Wilfred Belanger both copped second places.”

APRIL 18, 1966 – “Ronny Boucher, a distance star for NHS track coach Fran Tate last year and now a freshman at Central Connecticut State College, is entered in the Boston Athletic Association Marathon from Hopkinton to Boston tomorrow.

“Boucher played a very prominent role on the CCSC cross country team and is currently among the finest runners on the frosh track team. ‘Bush,’ as he is known to his many friends, hopes to become a track coach someday.

“For now, he must concentrate on tomorrow’s race and the races of many more tomorrows. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Boucher, 26 Delude St.”

APRIL 18, 1975 – “Julius Adams and Steve Schubert, members of the New England Patriots football club, are volunteering their to a 15-year-old Nashua boy who has tremendous athletic ability but has had trouble bringing it out.

“The ‘rehabilitation’ or ‘big brother’ program is for the youths involved in the Boys Club. ‘Big brothers’ or ‘big sisters’ volunteer services in the way of helping youngsters in trouble to find other channels through which they can constructively use their talents or abilities.

“According to Bob Lehmann, co-leader of theNashua Regional sector of the group, the organization is presently seeking big brothers and sisters for this purpose.”

APRIL 18, 1985 – “The real heroes of the Eastern League game between the Nashua Pirates and the Pittsfield Cubs on Wednesday night were the fans.

“A crowd of 268 hearty souls survived 35-degree temperatures to watch the Pirates edge the Cubs, 4-3. It was Nashua’s fourth victory of the season in six starts.

” ‘Most of them stayed for the entire game,’ Nashua manager Johnny Lipon said. “They were all bundled up.”

Wonder how many pitchers may have felt some aches and pains after throwing in the Wahconah Park freezer?
