Back to business as usual.

Yes, the holidays are over, and while a lot of schools are still off today, the high school boys and girls basketball regular season resumes today and tonight with games that count in the standings.

The top game in the area is likely tonight’s 6:30 p.m. battle between the Nashua North and Bishop Guertin boys basketball teams at Titans Gym.

North, of course, is coming off its dramatic win over rival Nashua South in the Nashua Holiday Tournament last Sunday. The Titans are 2-3 overall, but will be looking for their first Division I regular season win (0-3).

“They’re a competitive group,” North coach Kyle Tave said. “We’re in it together. We’re as strong as the last guy on the bench. … We might not be the biggest group, we’ve got to out-scrap you.”

Guertin (1-2) started the year off strong with a win over Concord but then fell to Portsmouth and Bedford before the break, and bowed in the opener at last weekend’s Malden Catholic Tournamen to MC. The Cards will be looking to right the ship.

South (1-1, 2-2 overall), meanwhile will try to recover at Keene (1-2) at 7 p.m. Other boys games are unbeaten (3-0) Hollis Brookline at Plymouth at 6 p.m., Merrimack (3-0) at Londonderry (2-3), and Coe-Brown (3-0) at Souhegan at 6:30 p.m. The Sabers are 2-1 in Division II, 3-2 overall after splitting games in the Nashua tourney.

In girls hoop, Nashua South (3-0, 4-1 overall) will try to also bounce back after bowing to North in the girls Holiday Tourney final. They’ll play a rare 1:30 p.m. game today at the Belanger Gym vs. another regular season unbeaten, Keene, also 3-0.

There’s an even earlier game on the schedule as Alvirne (1-2, 1-4 overall) is at Pinkerton (2-2) at 12:15 p.m. The Broncos hope to be finally healthy as they had a flu-laden 0-2 Nashua tourney experience.

The other girls games are evening matchups for Divsion II locals: Plymouth (1-2) at Hollis Brookline (0-3, 2-3 overall) and Souhegan 2-1, 7-1 overall) is at Coe-Brown (3-0), both games at 6 p.m.

The Sabers beat Coe-Brown en route to winning the Mike Lee Holiday Bash tournament earlier this week.

The Cavs, meanwhile, had an impressive showing in the Doug Chandler Tournament in Manchester, taking two of three games.

HOCKEY

The boys and girls ice hockey regular seasons resume Saturday.

Bishop Guertin (2-0, 5-0 overall) will play host to Vermont’s Rice Memorial at 1:40 p.m. at Skate 3. Nashua North-South (0-3) will be at 2-0 Trinity at 4:10 p.m. at JFK Coliseum. BG won all three games at the Blue Devil Classic in Salem; the Knights won two of three (half format) game in the Backyard Brawl at Conway Arena, losing 3-2 to Alvirne-Milford in the finals. Saturday is the second of four straight regular season road games for Nashua.

Speaking of the Admirals (1-2), they’ll bring that tourney title into a game vs. Bishop Brady-Merrimack Valley (0-3) at Skate 3 at 5:40 p.m.

Merrimack-Hollis Brookline-Derryfield (1-2-1) will host Dover (4-0) at 7:30 p.m. at Manchester’s West Side Arena. The WarHawks went 1-1-1 in the Brawl.

Pembroke-Campbell (1-1) will host John Stark-Hopkinton-Hillsboro at 7:30 at Concord’s Everett Arena. The Stark co-op won its holiday tourney.

Both local girls teams are on the road. Souhegan-North-South (2-2) will visit 2-2 Berlin-Gorham-Kennett at 5 p.m.

Bishop Guertin (0-4) will be at Lebanon Kearsarge-Mascoma (3-0) at Campion Rink in Hanover at 6:20 p.m.
