The Souhegan High School girls basketball team hopes to end 2025 by repeating history today.

The Sabers last won the Mike Lee Holiday Basketball Bash back in 1993, with former Saber standout and current University of North Carolina coach Courtney Banghart on the All-Tourney team.

Well, 32 years later, today at 12 noon they take on Prospect Mountain to see if they can add to their Bash championship collection at Farmington High School.

They’ve won four games in the tournament, beating Farmington, Raymond, Coe-Brown and on Tuesday Belmont in the semis, 65-33.

Freshman Brynn Siska had 21 points (five 3-pointers) while senior Zofia Rosenfield, who missed the first three games, had 16. Julia Skelton and Nayaa Dioneshkumar each added seven.

“We had some goals coming into this that we wanted to accomplish,” Sabers coach Greg Cotreau said. “We knew we’d be without Rosenfield the first three days, but we wanted to come in and continue to build our on-and-off court chemistry as well as build up some of our bench depth and allow our freshmen to build confidence while learning from our upperclassmen, Julia Skelton and Lanai Hickman.

“We’ve had someone different step up in every game.”

Mariellah Dart is averaging close to 10 assists in the tourney. Brynn Siska has played well defensively. Natalie Bryan has done the little things, especially on defense. Nayaa Dinishkumar has become a low post presence, averaging a double-double. But this may be the best part about the tournament for the Sabers:

“I think what is so impressive about what the girls are doing this week,” Cotreau said, “is the fact we have six freshmen seeing the floor and contributing.”

The Cavaliers beat Goffstown 50-42 at Manchester West in the consolation game, without one of their best players, Ana O’Donnell, who was hurt in the second round.

Samantha Disco had 13 points while Kendall Dunn had 12 and Brooke Bouchard 11. Mya Blackman had seven points while Ysabel Ramas and Bouchard stood out defensively.
