HS Roundup: HB second at Nor’Easter; South boys track gets a win

Yes, there was a Nor’Easter on Saturday.

Did you miss it?

That’s because you weren’t at Hollis Brookline, where several wrestling teams including a half dozen local teams competed in the event. And of course there was hockey, but the non-Nashua teams went 0 for 3 on the day.

Meanwhile, Nashua South had a good showing in indoor track. Here’s the results from the final Saturday before Christmas:

WRESTLING

HB SECOND, BG THIRD AT HOLLIS NOR’EASTER

The Cavaliers totaled 189 points behind winner Goffstown (220.5), while Bishop Guertin took third at 153.

Nashua North was seventh at 100 while Merrimack was eighth at 85.5 and Campbell 12th (66.5). Nashua South was 17th

The Cavaliers were led by Jacob Critchfield, who was first at 165, and Victor Lomme, who took second at 120.

Hunter Knight was third at 138 as was Jacob Velez at 190. Phillip Berke was fourth at 215.

Dylan Orr finished fifth at 144 as did Gabriel McGrath at 175, Kyle Leclair at 106, Guy Lafreniere at 126. Gill Lujan was sixth at 113.

For Bishop Guertin, Bishop Kearns took first place at 285 beating Pinkerton’s James Caruso in the finals, Jack Foster took the title at 175 and James Algeo won the 138 division. Wesley Steinruck was second at 106.

Austin Steinruck finished third at 132; Dom Stamp was fourth at 157.

Nashua North was paced by Sebastian Ochoa’s second at 126 and TaVyon Moore taking third at 144.

Craig Burge took fourth at 120 as was Kayden Vallerand-Kenneally at 150.

The Titans’ Caleb Smith was sixth at 138,

Merrimack’s Nicolin Stevens was third at 175; Carter Anderson took fourth at 190 as did Cash Torres at 165, while Avery Lanteigne was sixth at 215.

Nashua South got a sixth from Alex Rochette at 150 and Logan Rice at 190

Campbell’s Sam Baker won at 126, while Sage Anctil was second at 157.

BOYS HOCKEY

SPAULDING 4, MHBDS 3 (OT)

Brayden Comeau scored with 1:19 left in overtime to sink the Warhawks, who got two goals from Alex May and one by Bryson Smith. Assists for Merrimack-Hollis Brookline-Derryfield went to Josh ahn, Luc Chretien, and Austin Kovaliv. Liam Gagne had 35 saves in goal for MHBDS.

DOVER 4, ALVIRNE-MILFORD 1

Luke Green got the lone goal for the Admirals at the Dover Ice Arena, assisted by Landon Briand.

Kian Corcoran had 28 saves for A-M.

GIRLS HOCKEY

BISHOP BRADY/BOW 9, BISHOP GUERTIN 3

The Cards, who have struggled in their first few games, were down 4-3 after two before the third period went sideways.

Still, BG got two goals from freshman Lila Katz while Carly Green got a goal and an assist, and Grace Spangler had two assists.

BG is at Concord on Monday.

BOYS & GIRLS TRACK

SOUTH BOYS WIN, GIRLS SIXTH

The Panthers captured a 15-team meet with 75 points at Phillip Exeter’s Thompson Fieldhouse,ahead of Souhegan (54) and Bishop Guertin (49)

South’s 600 runners – Matt Motherway, Isiah Rodriguez an Pranav Dasari took second, third and fourth to spark the Panthers. Ray Karuru took first in the shot put while Preston Bois won the 55 hurdles. South also finished second in the 4×400 relay (Vitor Pegas, Rodriguez, Dasari and Motherway) as well as the 4×200 relay (Ethan Reeves, Robert Sanches, Bois and Ryan Jansen).

The South girls took sixth in the meet won by Bedford. Leading the Panthers were third place finishes by Sarah Witta in the long jump, Ariana Marengo in the 600, and the 4×200 relay team of Perl Nelson, Layla Ayi, Witta and Camrin Ayi. The Panthers and other locals will compete in the Boston Holiday Challenge Invitational next Saturday.
