Basketball was the name of the game on Saturday locally as teams prepared for the upcoming season and a couple actually opened it.

Here’s a look:

GIRLS BASKETBALL

WILTON-LYNDEBOROUGH 47, EPPING 17

The Warriors, who had a tough season a year ago, got off to a blazing start as they jumped out to a 21-2 lead “and handled business from there” according to head coach Tom Crowley.

McKenna Crouse had 17 points while Maddy Labrecque had 14 to lead WLC, which is at Sunapee on Tuesday.

NASHUA JAMBOREE

As many as 20 teams saw action on Saturday, and some, like Souhegan, had great success as the Sabers won all three of their scrimmages.

Other local teams that competed at the event that had games at Nashua North and South, often three at time, splitting the schools’ large gyms in half, were Merrimack, Milford, Hollis Brookline, Nashua North, South, Alvirne, and Campbell.

The regular season opens on Friday with a full slate of games.

BOYS BASKETBALL

EPPING 53, WILTON-LYNDEBOROUGH 18

It was a rough start of the season on the road for the Warriors, who stay on the road on Tuesday at Sunapee. They have their home opener on next Friday vs. Pittsburg-Canaan.
