And then there were two.

That’s all that’s left in teams for the 2025 fall local high school sports and football season.

Step right up Nashua High School South and Souhegan, as one will be playing for a championship and the other for the chance to play for a championship.

First on Friday, the No. 4 Panthers (9-2) will take on No. 1 Bedford (11-0) in the Division I semifinals at 7 p.m. at Bedford’s Bulldog Stadium. The winner advances to the Nov. 29 Division I title game which, ironically, will be played at Stellos Stadium.

Then Saturday at 1 p.m., No. 1 Souhegan (11-0) will battle No. 2 Trinity of Manchester (10-1) at Pinkerton Academy’s Memorial Field in Derry for the Division II championship. The Sabers go in as defending champions.

While Bedford beat South 34-14 back on Sept. 13, the season’s second game, Trinity and Souhegan did not play this season and have never played in a regular season game. The Pioneers moved up to Division II last year after winning the Division III title over Campbell in 2023.

The Panthers, led by quarterback Cody Jackson, beat Bishop Guertin 31-14 in the Division I quarterfinals on Friday night at Stellos. Bedford cruised past No. 8 Winnacunnet 44-13.

“Daunting task, obviously they’re the only undefeated team in the state (Division I), and they’ve got athletes all over the field, offense, defense, awesome in the trenches,” South coach Josh Porter said of the Bulldogs. “I think we’re a much better team now than when we played them in Week 2 and I’m sure they’re a better team now … It’s going to be a great game.

“I’m looking forward to the challenge and I think our guys will be excited for that one to make up for Week 2 for sure.”

While Souhegan pasted No. 4 Pelham, 47-14 on Saturday in their final game of the season at the Sabers’ Calvetti Field, Trinity edged No.3 Plymouth 29-27 in Manchester, a team it had lost to 46-14 up at Plymouth

Souhegan beat Pelham last year 14-11 in the finals. They’ll be seeking their seventh state title and third under head coach Robin Bowkett.

“They’re a great team, obviously,” Bowkett said of the Pioneers. “…They fly around on defense, they have athletes on both sides of the ball. … We’re going to have our hands full. We’ll try to make this the best week of practice it can be all year.”
