NHIAA GOLF: BG, Souhegan finish second in Division I, II

Two area high school golf teams with an eye on potential state titles had to settle for the runner up plaques on Tuesday.
In Division II, Souhegan’s run of three straight state titles ends – by just one shot. The Sabers at Mount Washington Resort, finished 18 over par as a team, while Portsmouth captured the title at plus-17.
In Division I, Bishop Guertin finished a distant second to Bedford at Canterbury Woods. The Bulldogs were a plus-21 while BG shot 38-over as a team.
Here’s a look at both division championshps:
DIVISION I
Bedford’s Henry Dubois was the match medalist at two under, while Guertin was led by Aaron Ackerman’s even par, followed by Owen Murphy tied for third at two-over. Nick Bishop was tied for 15th at eight-over, just qualifying for the individual tourney Saturday at Beaver Meadow along with Murphy and Ackerman. Joe Hebert was 10-over while Brody Sousa was 12 over for the Cards.
Other local highlights: Merrimack’s Drew Peretti was 11 over, tied for 29th. Nashua North’s Tommy Dratch was 12 over, tied for 37th. Danny Lavigne of Merrimack was plus-14 while Conor Prunier of North was a plus-16. Brendon Doughty of South was plus 19 and fellow Panther Will McKenney was 27-over.
DIVISION II
The Sabers had five birdies while Portsmouth had four birdies but an eagle, and that eagle was the difference for the Clippers.
Grey Gagnon served as medalist for the match, leading the Clippers with a 3-under while Souhegan was led by Jacob Wilson’s even par, tied for second with Portsmouth’s Thijis Beelen. Hollis Brookline, which finished sixth, was led by Matt Howie’s one-over, good for a tie for fourth.
Others scoring for Souhegan were Landon Carson, tied for eighth at plus-3; Sean Zerega in 10th at four-over; Joe Mayo in 11th at five-over, and Matt Nowak, tied for 12th at plus-six. All the Sabers, as well as the Cavs’ Beelen, will move on to Saturday’s individual tourney second and final round at Concord’s Beaver Meadow.
Also for HB Ben George was seven-over and Jack Barnes was a plus-15. Milford’s Jack Bastarache was plus-21 while Alvirne’s Luke Norse was plus-22.
