KEENE — Senior running back Shea Scott ran in for each of Merrimack’s first four touchdowns and added a fifth rushing score in the fourth quarter as the Tomahawks surged past Keene High 44-26 for their third consecutive win Saturday at Keene High’s Alumni Field.
Scott churned for 111 yards on 26 rushes. He scored three times in the first half, scoring twice from five yards out and a third time from two yards, as the Tomahawks led 24-14 at the break. Scott’s fourth score proved to be a turning point. After Keene forced a turnover on downs inside its own 15-yard line, the Tomahawks stripped the ball from Keene back Grady Erickson on the first play of the drive to force a turnover. Scott found the end zone for the fourth time, from 13 yards out, to help make it 30-20 midway through the third quarter.
On the ensuing possession, Keene had a 49-yard touchdown run from quarterback Colin Tinnin called back on a hold, and the Tomahawks went on to force a turnover on downs. Five plays later, Merrimack quarterback Maverick Torres connected with Cayden Dine for a 29-yard touchdown, and a two-point conversion made it 38-20 heading into the fourth quarter.
Tinnin got Keene back within two scores with his third rushing score in the opening minute of the fourth, but the Tomahawks responded with an eight-play, 59-yard scoring drive, capped off with a Scott one-yard score, to put the game on ice. Merrimack forced three turnovers, including interceptions from Shea Egan and Sam Demas.
Torres finished 15-for-28 through the air with 179 yards and a score. Dine was his top target, hauling in five receptions for 74 yards.
Merrimack (3-2) travels to Dover on Friday.
