HS Roundup: South, BG boys soccer able to stay unbeaten

They both kept up their end of the bargain.
Local soccer fans have been anticipating a battle of unbeatens between Nashua South and Bishop Guertin this coming Tuesday and both teams remained unbeaten with wins on Thursday night, both on the road.
Nashua South beat Goffstown in a game coach Tom Bellen said was “the best I’ve seen in D-1 this season, high-level soccer”, while BG got a hat trick from one of its key players at Spaulding.
Meanwhile, in field hockey, Hollis Brookline is putting together wins down the stretch. Here’s your Thursday high school rundown:
BOYS SOCCER
NASHUA SOUTH 2, GOFFSTOWN 1
The Panthers took a 2-0 lead and held on to move to 11-0-1 with their 11th straight win. Orry Carr and Vitor Pegas scored for the Panthers with assists from Kevin Araujo and Michele Esposito.
Meanwhile, Nirav Chenji and Alex Lopez played well defensively in front of keeper Antonio Pancine.
It will be South vs. BG Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Stellos Stadium.
BISHOP GUERTIN 3, SPAULDING 1
After two straight ties, the Cards (9-0-2) got back in the win column on three goals by Liam Ireland.
Tavish Keenan and Ryan Neary had assists, while Alex Haight and Josh Corriveau controled midfield.
On to BG vs. South on Tuesday.
MERRIMACK 3, TIMBERLANE 1
Hunter Joseph, Quinn Giuliano and Kaiden Martin scored for the Tomahawks, who moved to 7-2-3.
They now have a long break, not playing again until they host Dover on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 2 p.m.
FIELD HOCKEY
HOLLIS 4, KENNETT 0
Sophie Wenzel, Anna McGurk, Megan Eckman and Caroline Crawford all scored for the Cavs (10-2-1) while Crawford also added two assists. Ashle Disco had an assist while Maddie Barich had a save for the shutout.
HB is at Pembroke today.
EXETER 3, BISHOP GUERTIN 0
The Cards were blanked on the road, suffering their second straight loss to fall to 7-6. BG is at Dover on Saturday at 1 p.m.
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
EXETER 3, NASHUA SOUTH 1
The Panthers got off to a good start, winning the first set, 25-18, but dropped the next three, 25-12, 25-20, 25-17 to fall to 2-10.
Briley Lanstiener had 15 digs and two aces for South, while Joelle Primo (six kills) and Rebecca Walters (12 assists) also stood out or the Panthers, who are at Winnacunnet on Tuesday.
