HS Roundup: North, Milford volleyball grab big wins

It was a good night Wednesday for Nashua North. While the girls volleyball team won a five-set battle with Goffstown, the Titans field hockey team, despite the loss, finally got on the scoreboard – against defending champion Keene, no loss.

Meanwhile, Milford won a huge volleyball match with fellow Division II contender Hanover, snapping the Bears 10-match win streak.

Here’s a look:

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

NASHUA NORTH 3, GOFFSTOWN 2

The visiting Titans won their sixth straight match – and second straight five setter – to improve to 9-3.

What made this match one to remember was the fact the Titans fell beind 2-0, 18-25, 19-25. But they won the next three 25-17, 25-22, 15-11.

“Their energy was electric,” North coach Cassandra Desfosses said, “both on the court and on the bench. Every girl did their part and the system worked. The girls all stood out together.”

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 3, MERRIMACK 2

The Cavs took the deciding set in decisive fashion, 15-2, after forcing the fifth set with a 26-24 win in the fourth set.

HB won the first set 25-20, Merrimack took the next two, 25-18, 25-21.

HB was paced by Nicole Kosakowski with nine kills, four aces, while Shelby Klaassens added eight kills and three blocks. Max Walsh (nine aces, 28 assists) and Hailey Klaassens (eight kills) also were Cavalier keys.

For the Tomahawks, Nat Powers led the way with five aces, five kills and 13 digs. Mia Cruz had 15 digs while Leah Monroe had 15 kills and 14 digs. Belle Stiles added 29 assists.

Now 3-12, Merrimack is at Salem tonight.

The 4-8 Cavs host Winnacunnet on Friday.

BEDFORD 3, ALVIRNE 0

The Bulldogs dropped the Broncos to 6-6 with a 25-18, 25-18, 25-21 sweep. Victoria Suppa had five kills while Hailee Land had seven. Mena Lewis had three aces.

Alvirne is at Spaulding on Friday.

MILFORD 3, HANOVER 2

Harper Anderson had a night with 14 kills, eight aces, and seven digs as the Spartans moved to 9-2. Kassie Cupin helped out the Milford offense with 27 assists, seven kills and two aces. Hanover fell to 10-2.

FIELD HOCKEY

KEENE 5, NASHUA NORTH 2

The Titans may still be winless (0-14) but they are no longer scoreless. North got their first two goals of the season off the sticks of Maddie Dratch and Savanna Basford.

The Titans are at Bedford on Saturday.

DOVER 3, NASHUA SOUTH 0

South (3-12) kept things scoreless for both teams at the half but Dover pulled away.

Meury Navarrete had 15 saves while Meenu Dwarka had a defensive save as well.

Other standouts for the Panthers were Wylie Hart, Keegan Dolan, and Emme Christian.

South wraps up its season next Wednesday at Stellos Stadium vs. Pinkerton.
