HS Roundup: Big wins for Alvirne, North volleyball, plus South soccer

This is all about streaks.

Some were extended, and others were snapped on Monday along the high school circuit.

The Nashua South boys soccer team won its ninth straight and is unbeaten for 10, as is Bishop Guertin. Alvirne girls volleyball, which didn’t win a match last year, won its third straight. North girls volleyball won its fifth straight.

Others saw streaks snapped. Bishop Guertin saw it’s seven-match win streak halted by Pinkerton.

“We battled tough against a top-ranked opponent,” Cards coach Matt Erb said.

Let’s take a look at the day:

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

ALVIRNE 3, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 1

The Broncos moved over the .500 mark to 6-5 even though they dropped the first set 25-14 but then ripped off three straight, 25-14, 25-23 and 25-20 to beat the Cavs for the first time n recent memory.

Mena Lewis had 25 assists, putting her over 300 assists for the season, one of the top figures in Division I. Hailee Lane had 13 kills to add to her 118 kills on the season (likely in or near the top five). SammieSchiller was a force on defense with her digs and served well. Kya Maben added six kills and three blocks.

For the Cavs, now 3-8, Harper Sarris had 29 assists, Hailey Klaassens added 19 Kills, while Sam Burke had six. Hersey Vedula was solid defensively.

Alvirne hosts Bedford on Wednesday while HB hosts Merrimack for the team’s Jeanie Night fundraiser for Jeanie’s Jar of Hope Foundation.

PINKERTON 3, BISHOP GUERTIN 1

The Cards took the first set 27-25 but then dropped the next three, 25-22, 25-19, 25-16 in Derry. Thalia Drapeau was huge on some big blocking plays for BG, now 8-2 and set to host Windham on Wednesday.

NASHUA NORTH 3, WINDHAM 2

Speaking of the Jags, the Titans (8-3) got a huge five-set win for their fifth straight, knotting match up at 2 apiece with a 25-19 win in set 4 and then taking the fifth set in dramatic fashion, 15-13.

Logan Sartor was great on serve while Hayley Maurhoff and Amelia Hebert blocked well at the net. Ameila Hebert had some key kills while Ruby Zeman led the way as a setter.

“The team fought together the whole time,” Titans coach Cassandra Desfosses said. “If one player was off, the others picked up the slack.”

SALEM 3, NASHUA SOUTH 1

The Panthers were 1-1 in sets but fell 25-16, 25-21 in the final two to fall to 2-9. They dropped set one 25-17 but bounced back to even things up, 25-12.

Hannah Perez had eight kills, five digs, and one ace; Addy Campbell added 16 digs while Briley Landsteiner had 20 digs, three kills.

South is at Exeter on Wednesday.

BOYS SOCCER

NASHUA SOUTH 5, CONCORD 1

The Panthers keep rolling, winning their ninth straight (9-0-1). Kevin Araujo and Damien Rodriguez had two goals each while Michele Esposito had the other goal.

Nirav Chenji and Nico Frioni played well in back defensively for the Panthers, who host Dover Today.

BISHOP GUERTIN 3, HANOVER 3

The Cards (8-0-2) endured their second straight tie as Trenton Cormier had two goals, giving him 13 on the year, and Luis Hass had a single tally. Cormier, Liam Ireland and Ryan Neary each had assists.

“Trenton scored one of the best goals I’ve seen in high school soccer,” Cards coach Tyler Vandeventer said.

Beau Boughter had three saves. BG is at Salem on Thursday.

FIELD HOCKEY

GOFFSTOWN 1, NASHUA SOUTH 0

The visiting Panthers (3-11) played hard against a tough Grizzly team as Meury Navarette had 13 saves in goal. Also playing well for South were Sofia Forti, Wylie Hart, Keegan Dolan and Emme Christian.

South takes on Dover on Wednesday at Stellos.

GOLF

BISHOP GUERING WINS TRI-MATCH

The Cards (187) were far and away better than Londonderry (201) and Manchester Central (216) at Derryfield Country Club to close out the regular season as one of Division I’s top teams at 21-2.

Owen Murphy was co-medalist at 35 whl Maria Tribou had a 36, Aaron Ackerman a 38, while Chase Brisebois and Bennett Spotts each shot a 39.

NORTH THIRD IN TRI-MATCH

It couldn’t have been any closer as the Titans had a 202, one behind Exeter (201) which was just two behind match winner Windham (199).

Morgan Barry led North with a 37, followed by Tommy Dratch (38), Brayden Ouellette (41), Sam Kobs (42) and Conor Prunier (44).
