HS Roundup: North, Milford volleyball win; huge triumph for HB field hockey

There was plenty of high school volleyball on Monday, as is typical in the fall, and for the most parts the locals either won or were competitive for the most part.

But lets not forget field hockey and golf as Hollis Brookline won a huge game in Durham and Bishop Guertin dominated on the links in Derry.

Here’s the rundown:

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

NASHUA NORTH 3, TIMBERLANE 0

The Titans (6-3) won their third straight by a 25-21, 25-19, 25-21 sweep. It was a great defensive effort with some big blocks and aggressie digs by libero Patricia So. Junior setter Ruby Zeeman also led the Titans with great setting, hustle and serves. Freshman defensive specialist Laura Ducharme chipped in with some key serves.

North is at Merrimack on Friday.

DOVER 3, ALVIRNE 0

It may have been a loss via sweep for the Broncos (3-5) but it was a close loss: 25-22, 25-23, 25-22 – just eight points totoal.

Hailee Lane had nine kills to lead the Broncos, while Lisa Amadi and Ava Ellis had three kills each. Mena Lewis had 19 assists and two aces.

Alvirne hosts Nashua South on Wednesday.

MILFORD 3, CAMPBELL 0

The Spartans (7-1) were dominant in an all-local Division II matchup in Litchfield, 25-18, 25-12, 25-22 led by middle hitter Skyla Salemi (eight kills).

Kassie Cupin helped the Spartan offense with an all around match of 20 assists, four aces, and six kills.

The Cougars (5-5) host Coe-Brown on Wednesday, while Milford is at 7-3 Souhegan in another key local confrontation.

EXETER 3, MERRIMACK 0

The Tomahawks (2-10) suffered a 25-19, 25-13, 25-22 sweep at the hands of the Blue Hawks despite six blocks by Avary Cruz and four blocks by Lucy Althouse.

Merrimack is at Goffstown on Wednesday.

SPAULDING 3, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 2

The Cavs lost their second straight five-set match to fall to 3-6. They lost the first two sets 14-25, 25-27, then rallied to win the next two 25-20, 25-15 before falling 15-8 in the decisive set.

Nicole Kosakowski and Hailey Klaassens each had 11 kills while Max Harper added 21 assists and Hershey Vedula 16 digs.

HB heads back out to the seacoast on Friday to take on Dover.

FIELD HOCKEY

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 1, OYSTER RIVER 0

The Cavs won a key Division II road matchup on a goal by Anna McGurk to improve to 7-2, handing the Bobcats (9-1) their first loss of the season. Maddie Barich made six saves in goal to earn the shutout.

WINDHAM 4, NASHUA SOUTH 0

Meury Navarette had 12 saves in goal for the Panthers (2-9). Playing hard for South were Wylie Hart, Kegan Dolan and Emme Christian.

The Panthers are at Keene on Wednesday.

GOLF

BISHOP GUERTIN WINS QUAD MATCH

The Cards (16-2) totaled 178, well ahead of host Pinkerton (197), Exeter (211) and Keene (215).

Joe Hebert was medalist with a 32 at Hoodcroft, while Aaron Ackerman shot a 34, Owen Murphy a 36, Chase Brisebois 37 and Bennett Spotts a 39.

CONCORD 196, NORTH 201, SPAULDING 209

The Titans earned a split at Rochester Country Club as Sam Kobs shot a three-over 39 to tie for medalist. Morgan Barry and Tommy Dratch each had a 40 while Brayden Ouellet and Conor Prunier each had a 41 to complete the scoring for the Titans.
