The season has suddenly taken a better turn for the Milford High School football team.

The Spartans got their second win of the season on Saturday, but their fellow Division II local Hollis Brookline wasn’t so fortunate. That and a big Milford soccer win are your Saturday highlights:

FOOTBALL

MILFORD 22, JOHN STARK 12

The Spartans evened their record at 2-2 as quarterback Jacob Hill threw for 140 yards and two TDs in Weare.

Freshman Lucas Neubeack had a 30-yard TD reception, Gavin Tessier a 75-yard TD, and Jace Wilhemi had 11 tackles on defense and a touchdown on offense. Max Cote had an interception in the fourth quarter to seal the deal. The Spartans also pulled off a fake punt to ignite a scoring drive.

“It was a great win for the team today, the kids played tough as hell,” Spartans coach Max Morelli said.

Milford will look to try to get over .500 when Manchester West comes to town on Friday.

PELHAM 50, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 0

Don’t think a Cavalier or two didn’t stand out when you see the score vs. the 4-0 Pythons. Wide receiver Cole Duncan had five receptions for 43 yards while quarterback Stevie Nieble went 8 for 11 for 81 yards passing.

Freshman QB Nathan Fauteux, who got a first half series, completed a 20-yard pass to Anthony Barchard, a one-handed grab for an HB highlight of the day.

The Cavs (0-4) are at John Stark on Friday.

BOYS SOCCER

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 3, SOUHEGAN 0

The host Cavs scored three second half goals to improve to 3-3-2. Scoring was by John Constantine on a 30-yard screamer; Chris Ledger added two other goals.

Nathan Fossnes and Constantine added assists while the Cavs back line and Ian Sinclair (four saves) worked together for the shutout.

HB hosts unbeaten Oyster River on Tuesday. Souhegan, 3-4-2, will host John Stark on Tuesday.
