A sign of a good football team is its ability to win a tough game on the road.
Campebell High School Cougars, take a bow.
The Cougars had their toughest game in over a year as they got out of Somersworth with a hard fought 26-22 win, keeping them 4-0 in Division III.
They did it thanks to a late 99-yard run by back Brody Pinciaro inside of four minutes to play. The Cougars trailed but stopped the Hilltoppers from getting the clinching score on the 1-yard-line, and Pinciaro broke off the long right right after.
“Then we held on for dear life,” Cougars coach Glen Costello said. “It was a weird wee of practice with lots of injuries so to travel up here and battle through everything, it was a great win for these guys.”
The Hilltoppers had a first-and-goal at the 5, but a couple of costly penalties and a fumbled snap hindered Somersworth to score the go-ahead touchdown late in the fourth.
“Just kind of had a few to many mistakes there at the end, and we’ve got to clean that up,” Somersworth head coach Jeremy Lambert said. “Hopefully we learn from that, and we take the good things we had coming out of this game.”
It had to be tough loss for the Hilltoppers, who fell to 1-3. Pinciaro had a career game, with 17 carries for 254 yards and three TDs to go with one catch for nine yards. Braydon White had 10 carries for 69 yards while quarterback Mikey Grace ran for a score. He was 2 of 5 for 19 yards in the air and rushed four times for 8 yards. Sam Morrison had 35 yards on six carries.
Carter Lambert, Max Dubois and Kaleb Hefler all scored a touchdown for Somersworth. Max Ridings and Jackson Dumont connected for a successful two-point attempt, and Ridings also kicked two extra-points.
