HS Roundup: Tough night for most local volleyball teams

It was a tough Wednesday for most local volleyball teams — Hollis Brookline was the only reported winner — and a light night on the high school schedule.
Here’s a look:
SALEM 3, NASHUA NORTH 2
The Titans battled hard but fell 15-9 in the deciding set to fall to 3-3 for the first third of the season. They lost a tight first set 26-24, recovered to win the second 25-18 then fell in the third by the same score before forcing the fifth set, 25-21.
North enjoyed great blocking by middle hitters Hayley Maurhoff and Amelia Hebert. The Titans host Winnacunnet on Friday.
PORTSMOUTH 3, NASHUA SOUTH 1
The Panthers fell to 2-3 thanks to a slow start as they bowed 20-25, 15-25, 25-23, 21-25. Hannah Pere had seven kills, five blocks and five digs to lead the way.
Bailey Landsteiner (15 digs), Addy Campbell (four aces, 13 digs) and Joelle Primo (six kills, three blocks) also played well.
South (2-3) is at Londonderry on Friday.
LONDONDERRY 3, MERRIMACK 1
Speaking of Londonderry, the Lancers handed the rebuilding Tomahawks their sixth straight loss (1-6) by a 14-25, 16-25, 25-18, 21-25 count as a slow start hurt.
Leah Monroe had four aces, 11 kills and seven digs while Natalie Powers had five aces and seven digs to try and spark the ‘Hawks.
Merrimack hopes to snap the streak on Friday at Concord.
HOLLIS BROOKLINE 3, KEENE 1
The Cavaliers dropped the first set 24-26 but then bounced back with a 25-18, 25-23, 25-21 surge to win their second match of the season (2-4).
Hershey Vedula had nine kills, four aces and a block while Shelby Klassens had 11 kills and two blocks to pace the win.
Sam Burke (seven kills, one ace, one block), Harper Sarris (19 assists, three aces) and Dami Holman (nine digs) also helped out.
HB hosts Exeter on Friday.
GOLF
SPAULDING 206, NASHUA NORTH 213, SALEM 217
It was a split for the Titans at the par 36 Rochester Country Club, as North’s Conor Prunier was match medalist with two-under 34. Tommy Dratch had a 43, Morgan Barry a 44, and Dawson Bolton and Sam Kobs each had a 46 to account for the rest of North’s scoring.
