HS ROUNDUP: Panthers field hockey wins first; HB girls soccer turns 40

They knew it had to happen sometime soon. After starting the season out 0-3, the young Nashua High School South field hockey team picked up its first win to highlight a busy Monday local schedule.
It was a day of firsts in reverse, too, as a couple of local teams suffered their first losses. Here’s the rundown of another manic Monday:
FIELD HOCKEY
NASHUA SOUTH 2, PORTSMOUTH 1 (OT)
Isabel Picanco had the game-winner for the Panthers off a cross from Brooke Berger four minutes into the extra session.
Berger scored off a pass from Keegan Dolan in the third quarter, but the Clippers tied it three minutes later.
Meury Navarette had six saves in goal for South, which also got good games from Addie Borden, Wylie Hart, Emme Christian, Maggie Schmidt and Molly Mullaney.
South hosts Concord on Wednesday.
CONCORD 1, BISHOP GUERTIN O
The visiting Cards fell to 2-2 despite good play from Addison Dadonna, Carly Green and Lola Dumont.
BG hosts unbeaten Salem at Stellos Stadium on Wednesday.
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
NASHUA NORTH 3, CONCORD 0
The Titans enjoyed a 25-20, 29-27, 25-18 sweep to improve to 2-1, getting contributions from each player, including a spectacular offensive and defensive performance by senior captain Kylie Rizzo. North hosts Portsmouth on Wednesday.
DOVER 3, NASHUA SOUTH 1
The Panthers (1-1) suffered their first loss, taking the first set 25-19 but dropping the next three 21-25, 22-25, 18-25.
Hannah Perez (six kills, five blocks), Addy Campbell (six kills, four aces, 12 digs) and Rebecca Walters (13 assists, four aces) were Panther keys.
South hosts Spaulding on Wednesday.
LONDONDERRY 3, BISHOP GUERTIN 1
The Cards endured their first loss (2-1) on the season, falling 16-25, 26-28, 26-24, 20-25.
Avery Zapanos had a strong serving effort while Alissa Maillet played well defensively. BG is at Concord on Wednesday.
WINNACUNNET 3, ALVIRNE 2
The Broncos (1-1) took the first two sets only to have the Warriors rally. Libero Carolyn McElhinney (passing) and Kya Maben (serving) were key Alvirne contributors.
Alvirne is at Merrimack on Wednesday.
MILFORD 3, PELHAM 0
Harper Anderson led Milford with nine kills, while Savannah Watson added 10 service aces and seven kills as the Spartans moved to 2-0 on the young season.
Milford heads to Laconia on Wednesday.
GIRLS SOCCER
NASHUA NORTH 5, MERRIMACK 1
The Titans moved to 3-1 while handing the Tomahawks (2-1) their first loss of the young season.
Alli Frye had three goals while Sarah Frye added three assists. Maja Ray-Hokanson (goal, assist) and Evelyn Hebert (goal) also figured in the scoring.
The Titans host Dover on Thursday, while Merrimack is at Londonderry on Friday.
HOLLIS BROOKLINE 2, KEENE 0
The Cavs are now 2-0 thanks to goals by Marleigh Kreick and Rosalie DeSantis.Kreick’s, a drive from outside the box, came 15 minutes into the contest, while DeSantis convered a cross from Livi Ward with 15 minutes left.
Maddy Leonard had three saves for HB, now winners of 40 straight as a program and at Merrimack Valley today.
GOLF
NASHUA SOUTH THIRD
The Panthers (226) were behind Manchester Central (210) and winner Concord (201) at Concord Country Club.
Brendon Doughty (41) led the Panthers, while David Ramalho had a 44 and Will Stanley a 46. Will McKenney added a 47 and Jack Ninteau a 48.
