HS Roundup: BG girls teams win; South boys tie Bedford
Storms? What storms? Mother Nature didn’t derail some local teams as it was a good day for girls soccer Friday, with three area teams winning, starting with Bishop Guertin in a matchup of potential top four teams. Also, Nashua South boys soccer got a tie vs. a contender and the BG field hockey team started strong.
And that’s just part of Friday’s story. One note, the Lebanon-Hollis Brookline girls soccer game was postponed to Sept. 25.
GIRLS SOCCER
BISHOP GUERTIN 1, EXETER 0
Emerson Brown connected on a corner kick in the first half to give the Cardinals the opening season win. Olivia Baker occupied the net registering 15 saves, including one on a penalty kick in the second half.
Kelsey Ackerman, Charlotte Accomando and Mila Marques all played well for BG up top. Defenders Maddi Long and Riley Osborn also stood out.
BG visits Concord on Tuesday.
MERRIMACK 1, SALEM 0
Faith Sullivan scored on an assist from Lyla Carls as the Tomahawks defeat the Blue Devils. Merrimack visits Concord on Thursday.
MILFORD 3, PELHAM 1
The Spartans start the season strong with a road win over the Pythons. Camdyn Sayward, Kinsley Matsis and Noelle Cotreau each found the back of the net. Matsis, Maggie Pelletier and Jordyn Shaw each collected an assist. Milford hosts Oyster River on Tuesday.
BOYS SOCCER
NASHUA SOUTH 2, BEDFORD 2
The Panthers head back home after ending their contest with the Bulldogs in a tie. Michele Esposito netted two goals. Steve Long and Kevin Araujo each recorded an assist. South visits Winnacunnet on Tuesday.
LEBANON 3, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 1
The Cavs start their season with a loss on the road. Andrew Desmarais scored the lone goal off an assist from Nate Constantine. HB will host Campbell on Tuesday.
MILFORD 3, PELHAM 2
Tiegen Barb got the game winner, assisted by Eric Arsenov, in the second half of the Spartans’ season opener.
Ky-Mani and Matt Pettingale also scored, with assists by Blake Stone and Asher Maguire. Eben Barb controlled midfield for Milford to earn a game ball. Braedon Orien had four saves for the Spartans.
FIELD HOCKEY
BISHOP GUERTIN 3, TIMBERLANE 0
The Cardinals open the season with a shutout victory over the Owls. Carly Green scored two goals and Addison Daddona added one. BG visits Bedford on Wednesday.
WINNACUNNET 7, NASHUA SOUTH 0
The Warriors pulled away in a hard-fought game. Meury Navarette had 21 saves for the Panthers in their opener. South plays Timberlane next week.
HOLLIS BROOKLINE 7, DERRYFIELD 0
Caroline Crawford and Megan Eckman tallied three goals apiece in the defending Division II champion Cavs’ shutout win. Anna McGurk added a goal and Maddie Barich made two saves. HB hosts Kennett on Wednesday.

HANOVER 191, CONCORD 200, WINDHAM 211, NASHUA NORTH 218
Morgan Barry, Joey Lantz and Dawson Bolton all scored a 43 for the Titans at Concord Country Club. Braydon Ouellette had a 44 while Conor Prunier shot a 45.
