Tennis Tourney Roundup: Titans, Cavs advance; Panthers bow

Three local high school girls tennis teams were in action in the Division I and II prelims.
Two will be moving on.
C’mon down, Nashua North and Hollis Brookline. The Titans cruised past Salem while HB knocked off Oyster River at Longfellow Tennis in Nashua.
Unfortunately, Nashua South didn’t enjoy the same feeling, as they were eliminated by Keene.
Here’s a look:
GIRLS TENNIS
DIVISION I PRELIMS
NO. 6 NASHUA NORTH 6, NO. 11 SALEM 3
The Titans (10-4) took four of six singles and two of three doubles to advance to the quarterfinals.
Singles winners were No. 1 Mary Pappas, 8-3; No. 3 Gabi Desjardins in a tiebreaker (9-8, 7-1); No. 4 Marianna Cajigas 8-5 and No. 5 Leena Srinivas 8-4.
Pappas/Baxter won 8-4 at No. 1 and Desjardins/Cajigas triumphed at No. 2, 8-5. North will now head north on Friday to take on No. 3 Hanover.
NO. 10 KEENE 6, NO. 7 NASHUA SOUTH 3
The Blackbirds swept doubles after the teams split singles to knock out the Panthers (9-6)
South’s singles wins were at No. 3, Saanvi Praturu in a tiebreaker (9-8, 9-7), Riya Shroff at No. 5, 9-7 and Gowri Akinni, 8-2, at No. 6.
Keene (7-8) took the first two doubles by identical 8-6 scores to advance, as they’ll head to face No. 2 Bedford in Friday’s quarterfinals.

DIVISION II PRELIMS
NO. 7 HOLLIS BROOKLINE 5, NO. 10 OYSTER RIVER 4
The Cavs took two of three doubles matches after the teams split singles to advance to the quarterfinals.
Anna Heiplik and Max Walsh won 8-3 while Vivienne Turcotte and Eileen Toms win 8-3 to pull out the match.
Before that, Anuhya Chilakapati (8-1), Heiplik (8-1) and Walsh (8-0) picked up valuable singles wins for HB, now 9-6.
The Cavs will move on to face No.2 Portsmouth on the road in Friday’s quarterfinals.
TODAY’S MATCHES
It’s back to boys tennis today, which means two locals that had first round byes in Division II, No. 3 Hollis Brookline (11-3) and No. 5 Souhegan (9-5) will make their tourney debuts in the quarterfinals.
The Sabers will be at No. 4 Portsmouth (11-3) while the Cavs will host No. 6 Lebanon (10-5) at Longfellow Tennis Club in Nashua.
Meanwhile, in Division I, No. 7 Bishop Guertin (9-6), off its prelim win over Nashua North, will be at No. 2 Bedford (13-1). Match times are at 4 p.m.
