HS ROUNDUP: Locals fall in tennis prelims; a no-no for Campbell hurlers

It was quite a return from a holiday weekend for local high school sports teams.

First, the boys tennis tournament began, but that didn’t turn out too well in the prelims for the locals.

But in Litchfield, it was a day to remember for baseball pitchers Luke Delia and Braydon White, who combined for a no-hitter for Campbell on the mound. That and more await your readers:

BOYS TENNIS

DIVISION II PRELIMS

NO. 7 BOW 6, NO. 10 MERRIMACK 3

A productive season for the Tomahawks ended on a tough note as they managed just two singles win and one of three doubles.

Singles winnerswere Jeremy Nigen at No. 4, 8-5 and Felix Rattunde at No. 6, 8-6. The ‘Hawks suffered a blow with a tough tiebreaker as No. 5 Wayne Alexander bowed 9-8, (8-6) to Bow’s Jack French, a potential turning point.

Merrimack’s lone doubles win was by the No. 3 tandem of Alexander and Lucas Goldberg, 8-5.

Now 9-6, Bow moves on to play at No. 2 Winnacunnet on Thursday in the quarters.

NO. 6 LEBANON 8, NO. 11 ALVIRNE 1

The Broncos inaugural Division II season came to a close as they dropped five of six singles. Their only win was by No. 6 Christian Figueiredo, 8-3, over Lebanon’s Seth Danen-Lucier. Bronco Sean Mendes put up a good fight at No. 2 before bowing to Augie Church, 8-5.

The No. 3 Alvirne doubles team of Figueiredo/Sam Kudikala fell in a close one, 9-8 (7-5).

Alvinre winds up the season at 6-9. Lebanon (10-5) will now come to Nashua to take on Hollis Brookline Thursday in the quarters indoors at Longfellow Tennis Club.

BASEBALL

CAMPBELL 6, RAYMOND 1

Luke Delia and Braydon White combined for a no-hitter on the mound as the Cougars improved to 10-4.

Delia threw five hitless innings with four strikeouts, while White closed it out with four strikeouts over two more hitless frames.

Jack Curtis went 3 for 3 with an RBI, while Brady Marcotte drove in two runs with a key single.

And, not only did he contribute to the no-hitter, White capped the scoring with a two-run homer in the sixth.

The Cougars (10-4) host Bishop Brady today.

BISHOP GUERTIN 9,PORTSMOUTH 5

The Cards picked up a huge win at Holman Stadium to improve to 11-7 behind the pitching of A.J. Holmes, who pitched four hitless innings striking out seven.

BG was led offensively by Ben Geiger (3 for 3, two runs, RBI), Tyler Parks (1 for 3, double run,three RBIs) and Nick Wyner (3 for 4, three runs, RBI,stolen base).

LONDONDERRY 10, NASHUA SOUTH 8

The Panthers played the Lancers tough before falling to 6-11. Jack Ninteau led the offense with a home run and three RBIs while Leo DePaolo also homered, with two RBIs. Kosay Tanaka added a double to the cause.

The Panthers will be at Winnacunnet today at 4:30 p.m.

TIMBERLANE 12, NASHUA NORTH 1

The Titans’ tough season continues as they fall to 4-13. They’re at Merrimack today before winding up the campaign on Thursday, hosting Spaulding.

MILFORD 6, SANBORN 4

The Spartans were sparked by Logan Howard, wo went 2 for 4 with two stolen bases. Gabe St. Onge (2 for 3) and Liam Zahn (3 for 3, two steals) also were keys.

Freshman Jacob Hill allowed just five hits over five innings, striking out five in getting the win.

Now 5-9, Milford hosts Hanover today.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 13, COE-BROWN 0

The Cavs (12-3) dominated, as Ian Sinclair tossed five scoreless, five-hit innings, striking out nine and walking one. Ben George tossed two scoreless frames in relief.

Both pitchers were supported by a 13-hit HB barrage. Tyler Gryniewicz and Quinn Imbrogno each collected multiple hits with Gryniewicz stealing two bases. Paul Gehan led the way, going 3 for 4 with a solo homer and two doubles. HB takes on Lebanon on Thursday.

BOYS LACROSSE

WINDHAM 9, NASHUA SOUTH 8

The Panthers (7-10) dropped a heartbreaker at Stellos Stadium. Cody Jackson (two goals, two assists), Broden Landsteiner (two goals, assist), Owen Roy (goal, assist), Grayson Flaherty,Brendan Skelley and Luke Lowell (a goal apiece) all were key contributors.

Tyler Benzekri had five ground ball pickups and had five caused turnovers, while Jake Lynn had nine saves in goal.

South hopes to end a three-game losing streak in its season finale Thursday vs. rival Nashua North at Stellos.

GIRLS LACROSSE

CAMPBELL 18, INTER-LAKES 5

The Cougars improved to 4-7 led by Ava Grant’s seven goals and two assists. Lilli Wilson added five goals and four assists, while Zoe Bourque added another three goals and four assists.

Goalie Rania Chaudhry kept the Lakers in check with a 62 percent save percentage.

Campbell hosts Derryfield on Thursday.
