HS ROUNDUP: A good day to be a Panther; big night for HB’s Norris

Pick a sport, any sport, we’ve got the local results as Wednesday was one of the busiest days of the spring high school season with some great performances. That includes a great pitching performance at Holman Stadium, suddenly hot Alvirne baseball and Nashua South boys lacrosse teams, a Panther lax scorer did just that, and news that another Division II boys tennis team finally cooled down a hot Hollis Brookline boys tennis team.
But on the flip side, HB volleyball standout Ethan Norris was on fire.
Here’s a look at a Wild Wednesday:
BASEBALL
NASHUA SOUTH 3, KEENE 2
Brendon Doughty threw a complete game and allowed two hits in the Panthers (4-8) win. Leo DePaolo had two hits and a RBI. South hosts Nashua North on Friday.
ALVIRNE 7, SPAULDING 4
The Broncos (3-7) continue their hot streak by winning their third game in a row. Leading the offense were Jaxson Polleck (two hits, run), Mikey Bebris (two hits, run, two RBIs), Jameson Krueger (hit, run, RBI), Brady Mitchell (run), Matty Bebris (run, RBI), Alex Small (hit, run) and Charlie Crawford (hit, run). Small threw six innings, allowing four run on nine hits and struck out three, while Brady Buja picked up the save. Alvirne visits Bedford on Thursday.
CAMPBELL 10, DERRYFIELD 1
Luke Delia (two hits, three RBIs, two stolen bases) hit a two-run single to give the Cougars (6-2) a 2-1 lead in the fourth and they never surrendered from there. Delia also pitched six and two-thirds innings, allowing one run on two hits and striking out six. Campbell’s patience at the plate paid off by drawing eight walks. Campbell visits Somersworth on Friday.
MILFORD 10, PEMBROKE 9
The Spartans (2-6) were down 9-2 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning and came back in a walk off win. Logan Howard led the way with four hits, three RBIs and two stolen bases. Howard grabbed the win giving up no runs in four and two-thirds innings of relief. Bryce Larco had three hits and two stolen bases and Jacob Hill added a double and three RBIs. Milford visits Laconia on Thursday.
JOHN STARK 4, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 1
The Cavs (7-3) fall in their third game in three days. Keenan Myers, Tyler Gryniewicz, Dylan Morelli, Quinn Imbrogno, Paul Gehan, Jordan Morelli and Renzo Bergskaug had one hit apiece. Connor Gryniewicz scored on a Bergskaug RBI. Gehan pitched six innings, allowing two runs on two hits and struck out seven. HB hosts St. Thomas on Friday.
On Tuesday, the Cavs bounced back from Monday’s loss at Souhegan with a 10-3 win over Laconia, as Connor Gryniewicz drove in five runs, Dylan Morelli went 4 for 5 with two doubles and a triple, and Ian Sinclair got the win striking out 12 in just five innings.
SOUHEGAN 15, CONVAL 5
The Sabers (10-1) keep rolling with a big win over ConVal. Jaiden Bosquet pitched five innings allowing one hit, two runs and struck out eight. Leading the offense were Drew Reagan (three hits, three runs, three RBIs), Matt Silk (two hits, run, three RBIs), Cam Brown (hit, run), Joe Mayo (three hits, two runs, RBI), Blake Powers (hit, run), Alex Trudel (hit, two RBIs) and Brody Smith (two hits, three runs, RBI, stolen base). Souhegan visits Oyster River on Thursday.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
HOLLIS BROOKLINE 3, KEENE 1
HB’s Ethan Norris had a banner night with 31 kills, 13 digs, 12 service points and three aces as the Cavs won in four sets, 25-18, 25-21, 22-25, 25-19. Norris also made his 500th career kill, which will according to Cavs coach Jake Balfour go into the New Hampshire Volleyball Coaches Association(NHVCA) Hall of Fame, adding to his 500th career did and 1,000th assist records.
Matteo Morel also had 17 service points and four kills, while Alex Howe added seven kills. Sam Hersey and Zac Wu combined for 45 assists.
HB plays Bishop Guertin today in a site change, the game now at Hollis Brookline at 4:30 p.m.
SOFTBALL
KEENE 16, NASHUA SOUTH 4
The Panthers (4-8) lost pace with the Black Birds and lose their second straight game. Cate Marvin took the loss giving up 16 runs on 20 hits and striking out 10 in seven innings. Shirley Njau (one hit, two RBIs) and Charlotte Primeau (two hits) played well for the locals. South ran well on the base paths accumulating seven hits. South visits Timberlane on Monday.
JOHN STARK 12, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 8
The Cavs fall to 3-5 after a home loss on Wednesday. Ashley Disco (three hits, RBI), Sophia Brickner (two hits, two runs), Abigail Wallis (two hits, two runs) and Ava Imbrogno (two hits, RBI) played well in the loss. HB hosts Campbell on Thursday.
MERRIMACK 7, CONCORD 5
The Tomahawks (8-4) secure their fifth straight win on Wednesday afternoon. Lily Dionne got the win throwing five innings and Marissa Nelson pitched two shutout innings for the save. The offense was led by Olivia Burke who had two hits and three RBIs, while Bayleigh Robichaud added two hits and two runs scored in the win. Dionne, Nelson, Katie Coolidge, Ashley Senecal and Julia Hoag all had hits for the Tomahawks. The Tomahawks visit Dover on Thursday.
BOYS LACROSSE
NASHUA SOUTH 10, SALEM 8
Luke Lowell and Cody Jackson collected three goals and an assist each as they lead the Panthers (6-5) to their third straight win. Owen Roy (goal, two assists), Brendan Skelley (two goals), Broden Landsteiner (goal, assist), Grayson Flaherty (two assists), Cole Warshafsky (assist), Tyler Benzekri (assist) and Cole Rioux (assist) added to the offense. South visits Dover on Friday.
BOW 15, MILFORD 0
The Spartans (0-9) got shutout by the Falcons and stay winless on the season. Milford visits Laconia on Thursday.
HOLLIS BROOKLINE 13, SPAULDING 3
Noah Taylor reached 100 career points by putting four goals and two assists in the box score for the Cavs (9-3). Bennett Torgersen (five goals), JP Torgersen (three goals), Mike O’Hearn (two points), Colin Magnuszewski (two points), Vittorio Masoni (two points), Oliver Spencer (assist), Luke Kinney (assist), Levi Mitchell (three saves) had great performances. HB hosts Oyster River on Friday.
GIRLS LACROSSE
NASHUA SOUTH 18, WINDHAM 6
The Panthers (9-4) defeat the Jaguars decisively in a battle of the cats. Maren Lowell collected six goals and three assists to pace the offense. Carly Benzekri (assist), Saige Devins (assist) and Karina O’Donnell each had a hat trick, while Addie Borden contributed two goals. Nevaeh Eppolitto, Lexi McGuire, Karina Santana, Lily Stutz and Nitzann Alkalay led the defensive unit. South hosts Dover on Thursday.
CAMPBELL 18, BELMONT 7
The Cougars win in dominant fashion to even out their record at 3-3. Ava Grant tallied six goals and three assists and Zoe Bourque had five goals and five assists to lead the way. Melina Gingras (three goals, two assists), Abby Guerrett (two goals, two assists) and Rania Chaudhry (53 save perentage) contributed in the win. Campbell visits Kearsarge on Friday.
BOYS TENNIS
NASHUA NORTH 5, PINKERTON 4
The Titans took two of three doubles after the teams split singles to come away with the win in Derry and get back to .500 at 5-5
The Nos. 2 and 3 doubles teams of Domingo Reynoso/Jack Desjardins and Jeet Panchal. and Ebuka Stanley. both won 9-7.
Reynoso, Desjardins, and Panchal won their singles matches by scores of 8-4, 8-4, 8-3 respectively.
GOFFSTOWN 5, HOLLIS BROOLINE 4
The Cavs suffered their first loss of the season, losing four of six singles and falling short in an attempt to sweep doubles for the win.
Singles winners for HB, now 9-1, were No. 1 Arjun Inakollu (8-3) and No. 2 John Torpey (8-2). Inakollu/Samuel Anthony (8-0) and Torpey/Greyson McSeveney (8-4) also won.
The Cavs host Merrimack on Friday.
SOUHEGAN 7, MERRIMACK 2
The Sabers (5-4) took five of six singles to get the win, with Brian Goddard (8-6), Parker Shade (8-1), Patrick Bryson (8-5), Carpenter Berube (8-6) and Jason Bartle (9-8, 7-4) coming out on top.
The top two doubles teams of Goddard/Balthazar Glover (8-1) and Schade/Bryson (8-2) also won.
Merrimack got a win by Leon Rossman at No. 2 singles 8-5 and the No. 3 doubles team of Wayne Alexander/Lucas Goldberg also won 8-2.
The Tomahawks (5-6) take on Hollis Brookline at Longwood Nashua on Friday while Souhegan goes to Kennett today.
OYSTER RIVER 7, ALVIRNE 2
Sean Mendes at No. 2 (8-5) and Christian Figueiredo at No. 6 (8-5) picked up wins for the Broncos, now 3-8, are at Lebanon today.
GIRLS TENNIS
NASHUA SOUTH 9, MANCHESTER MEMORIAL 0
The Panthers enjoyed one of their best matches of the season as in singles no one lost more than two games. Piya Chokshi (8-0), Krina Dani (8-1), Saanvi Praturu (8-0), Hannah Jacobs, Riya Shroff and Soha Patel (all 8-2) triumphed.
Arnanya Arun/Nikhitha Matta (8-3), Bhavani Lakshminarayanan/Annika Garimetta (8-4) and Bhavya Aeron/Prislyn Anand (9-7) completed the sweep in doubles.
Now 5-4, South is at Windham on Friday.
SOUHEGAN 8, MERRIMACK 1
The Sabers stayed unbeaten, sweeping singles with winners down the ladder being Callie Perrin (8-3), Tess Jancar (8-3), Ori Dart (8-4), Caroline Drum (8-0), Sophia Yates (8-5) and Evolina Paraschanka (8-2).
Jancar Drum (8-2) and Amanda Leary/Calli Hrycuna (8-0) won in doubles.
For the Tomahawks, the tandem of Lina Edlieb/Cassidy Callahan won at No. 2 doubles, 8-1.
Merrimack (5-5) hosts Hollis Brookline today while Souhegan (11-0) hosts Oyster River today.
HOLLIS BROOKINE 6, GOFFSTOWN 3
Anuhya Chilakapati (8-0), Anna Heiplik (8-1), Saph Sidhu (8-2), Ava Porto (8-6), and Max Walsh (8-4) all took their singles matches to give the Cavs (8-4) the win.
Heiplik/Walsh won at No. 3 doubles, 8-3. HB is at Merrimack today.
