HS Roundup: BG lacrosse teams romp; Saber tennis wins
It was a light Thursday on the high school circuit, but don’t tell that to fans of Bishop Guertin lacrosse.
The Cardinals boys and girls beat two pretty decent opponents by a combined score of 29-4 as the season’s second week is winding down. Also, it wasn’t a great day for the Nashua South baseball team.
Let’s take a look:
BOYS LACROSSE
BISHOP GUERTIN 16, MERRIMACK 3
The Cardinals won their second game in two days with five players getting two goals: Jack Redfern, Finn Murphy, Owen King, Broden Morse, Michael Ponto, and Sean McGary. Steven Kouchalakos and Colin Foley each had a goal while Cam Hayden had a goal and two assists. Other assists went to Jackson Warren (2), Noah Guarrera, Redfern,Morse, Ponto, Sampson San. Jona Feliciano and Jordan LeClair combined for nine saves in goal.
For Merrimack (3-2), Henry Tobin and Cayden Dine had a goal and an assist while Hudson Rousseau added a goal. Mason Tremblay had 13 saves while Quinn Curran had three saves for the ‘Hawks, who visit Dover today.
GIRLS LACROSSE
BISHOP GUERTIN 13, WINDHAM 1
Sarah Brunelle led the way for the Cards with four goals and an assist. Charlotte Accomando (three goals, five draw controls, one ground ball), Bella Dawson (two goals, two assists, three ground balls), Jordan Gaebel (two goals, assist, four draw controls, one caused turnover, three ground ball pickups) and Abby Lynn (two goals, one ground ball) paced the offense.
Sydney Brophy (six ground balls, two caused turnovers) paced the defense in front of goalies Maddy Eder-Linell (first half shutout, two saves, one caused turnover, one ground ball) and Emmerson Danish (four saves).
BG, now 3-0, is at Westwood, Mass. on Saturday at 11 a.m.
SPAULDING 12, ALVIRNE 8
The Broncos played one of their better games of the young season in defeat, led by Cadence Bice’s three goals and two each by Alanna Tardiff and Audrienna Chipperini. Adrianna Reilly also added a goal while Fiona Duggan had 15 saves.
BASEBALL
CONCORD 12, NASHUA SOUTH 1
It wasn’t a good day for the Panthers (1-4) despite two hits and two stolen bases by Kosay Tanaka.
South is set to host Pinkerton, weather permitting, at Holman Stadium at 10 a.m. Saturday to kick off a scheduled four-game baseball extravaganza at Holman that day.
BOYS TENNIS
SOUHEGAN 5, OYSTER RIVER
The Sabers took two of three doubles to get the win after splitting singles with the Bobcats. No. 1 Brian Goddard (8-5), No. 3 Parker Schade (8-2), and Patrick Bryson (8-6) won in singles while Goddard/Glover and Schade/Bryson won 8-4 and 8-3 respectively.
