HS Roundup: Panthers, BG, Milford, HB do well in meets

We’re winding down the winter high school indoor track regular season, with one more week to go before the prep work starts for the Feb.8-9 State Meets at Plymouth State University.
Keep an eye on the South Panther boys, who did well in a Sunday afternoon qualifier meet at UNH. There were other locals excelling as well, plus we’ve got some leftovers from the weekend in gymnastics and wrestling.
Here’s the Sunday rundown:
BOYS & GIRLS TRACK
SOUTH DOES WELL IN QUALIFIER
The South boys got first place finishes from Ray Karuru (46-03.75) in the shot put, Matthew Motherway in the 1000 meter run (2:49.54) and Ryan DuVarney in the 1500 meters (4:18.28).
Also, the 4×160 meter relay foursome of Leo Lopez, Ryan Jansen, Tim Staeley and Marcell Perry won in style, setting a new school record of 1:14.75.
Also for the Panthers, Perry finished second in the 55 dash, Liam Gallagher same in the shot put and so did two other relay teams: the 4×400 crew of Camdon Brien, DuVarney, Motherway and Isiah Rodriguez , plus the 4×800 foursome of Brien, Andrew Samos, Motherway and Revin Olsen.
Bishop Guertin got a pair of relay wins: the 4×400 relay team of Liam Ireland, Sam Prescott, Jack Mello and Carson Fischer won in 3:48.25. Then the 4×800 foursome of Fischer, Prescott, Will Coler and Ireland won in 8:50.49.
Fischer was third in the 600 as was Jake Daly in the high jump.
Alvirne’s Joey Marcotte was second in the 55 hurdles, as was Shane Plumley in the 300.
In the girls meet, South’s Natalee Thomas won the 55 dash (7.64).
The relay foursome of Alejandra Chavarin, Diamond Perry, Camrin Ayi and Natalee Thomas were second in the 4×160 as were the 4×400 crew of Sarah Witta, Thomas, Camrin Ayi and Emma Millette. Nora Gauteri was third n the shot put.
Bishop Guertin went one-two on the1500, with Anna Fondakowski winning in 5:33.95 and Shannon Forsyth taking second (5:34.09). Fondakowski helped the Cards 4×800 relay team win along with Lyla Masson, Shannon Forsyth and Anna Sinclair in 10:31.93.
The Cards were third in the 4×400 as was Gabby Gillette in the high jump.
Alvirne’s Ava Martin was third in the 1000.
MILFORD, HB SHINE
In the morning meet at UNH with Division II teams, the Spartans and Cavs had some good performances.
Milford’s Avery Wilson won the 55 dash in 6.74 while Logan Korthalstook the 1500 in 4:15.15.
Milford’s 4×400 relay team of Korthals, Wilson, Kenyon Sora and Will Whitley won in 3:46.05.
Hollis Brookline’s Jacob Hoesch captured the 600 in 1:28.31
Brady McCammack was third in the 55 hurdles as were the Cavs in the 4×160.
Souhegan’s Brody Smith took third in the 300. The foursome of Brody Smith, John Katsel, Ryan Stone and Muse Cross-Swartzell was second in the 4×160.
In the girls race, HB’s Grace Dow won the 55 hurdles in 8.83, while fellow Cavalier Molly Reardon won the 1000 in 3:16.42.
The Cavs foursome of Adrienne Thibault, Livia Ward, Paige Shirely and Dow were second in the 4×160 as were the foursome of Annika Bergin, Audrie Green, Molly Reardon and Katelyn Hawley in the 4×400.
Souhegan’s Anora Swanson was third in the high jump.
WRESTLING
MILFORD SPLITS (Saturday)
The Spartans dominated ConVal, 73-6 but fell to Exter in the trilogy match, 49-22.
Winners vs. ConVal included Kane Davis at 120 (pin), Colton Schuster at 126 (pin), CamStickney at 138 (major decision), Tanner Herert at 144 (pin), Phil Wright at 150 (pin), Jace Wilhelmi at 157 (pin), Noah Kittrede at 165 (pin), Jack Clancy at 175 (13-9 decision), and pins by Nate Post (190), Eli Wales (215) and Brandon Leeman (heavyweight).
Winners vs. Exeter were Kiki Lordan at 132 (pin), Stickney at 138 (17-8 major decision), Wrght at 150 (pin), and Wilhelmi at 157 (pin).
The Spartans visit Alvirne on Wednesday.
GYMNASTICS
SOUTH, NORTH GYMNASTS IMPROVE
In a meet over the weekend at Keene, the Panthers were shorthanded but still performed well.
Katie Perry, in her fourth all-around performance of the season, had season high score on beam. Junior Abby Herbert did well on vault and bars; Binita Rana had season highs on bars, floor and tied her season high on beam. Meanwhile, Panther Sophie Collins had her best meet of the season with a season high on floor and debut of her front handspring vault. Maddie LaFleur had her best score of the season on beam.
For the North individuals, Ashlynn Hall had her second highest floor score of the season but her best of the season on beam. Lynnlee Davis had her high score of the season on floor.
The Panthers will be at Londonderry on Feb. 5.
