There were plenty of winners in this roundup of local high school tourney action on Wednesday.

That includes Division II boys soccer, Division II girls volleyball, and in the remaining Division I boys soccer prelim, Merrimack.

Here’s the rundown, and these results mean a busy Saturday for sure:

BOYS SOCCER

DIVISION II PRELIMS

NO. 7 HOLLIS BROOKLINE 2, NO.10 Kennett 1

The Cavaliers (9-6-2) got a tying goal from John Paul Torgersen and the game-winner by Colin Magnuszewski, both in the first half, to advance to Saturday’s quarterfinals vs. No. 2 Oyster River in Durham.

After Kennett took the lead in the sixth minute 1-0 on a rebound goal, the Cavs got the equalizer from Torgersen two minutes later, assisted by Noah Natalino.

Then senior Magnuszewski got the what proved to be the game-winner at the 20 minute mark of the first half, assisted by John Constantine. HB’s defense did the work the rest of the way.

Kennett finishes at 6-7-4. The Cavs will be looking to avenge a 3-1 regular season loss to the Bobcats as well as one in last year’s tourney.

NO. 6 COE-BROWN 3, NO. 11 SOUHEGAN 0

The Bears (9-6-2) ruined what could have been a Milford-Souhegan quarterfinal matchup, and will take on the No. 3 Spartans themselves Saturday in Milford at 5 p.m. Souhegan wraps up the season at 4-7-6.

Milford beat Coe-Brown 2-1 back on Sept. 6.

DIVISON I PRELIMS

NO. 5 MERRIMACK, NO. 12 WINDHAM 1

The Tomahawks (10-4-3) won their first tourney game in the last few years to earn a trip Saturday to face No. 4 Hanover, which beat No. 13 Salem 2-0, in the quarterfinals.

The Tomahawks fell to the Bears 4-1 back on Sept. 27 in the regular season. Windham finishes at 6-8-3.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

DIVISION II PRELIMS

NO. 3 MILFORD 3, NO. 14 ST. THOMAS 0

The Spartans advanced to the quarterfinals courtesy of a 25-15, 25-12, 25-18 sweep, improving to 15-2.

Key contributors included Savannah Watson (three aces, 16 digs, eight kills), Abby Krulis (nine kills, 12 digs, one ace), Shilo Chappell (two aces, one kill, three stuff blocks), Kassie Cupin (22 assists, seven digs) and Beth Brooks (six kills, two digs).

Milford will host No. 11 Laconia (10-7) on Saturday in the quarters as the Sachems upset No. 6 Hanover, 3-1. St. Thomas finishes at 8-9.

NO. 5 SOUHEGAN 3, NO. 12 PLYMOUTH 1

The 13-4 Sabers, who reached the semis a year ago, will try to get there again on Saturday at No. 4 Oyster River, which beat Fall Mountain by the same 3-1 score, in Durham. Plymouth’s season ends at 9-8.

NO. 7 CAMPBELL 3, NO. 10 GILFORD 1

The 11-6 Cougars, who also reached the semis a year ago, will travel to face No. 2 Coe-Brown in the quarterfinals on Saturday, hoping for a return trip to Pinkerton next Wednesday. Gilford finishes at 9-8.
