HS Roundup: Cougars romp; locals do well at Manchester Invitational

The rain fell Saturday, but the games and the races were alive and well.

Campbell football grabbed another win, as did Nashua North and South girls soccer, and it was a big day for the Nashua South boys and Souhegan girls cross country teams in the Manchester Invitational.

Here’s a look at a busy Saturday:

FOOTBALL

CAMPBELL 34, INTER-LAKES 12

The Cougars moved to 3-0 in Division III as Scott Hershberger rushed for 184 yards and four touchdowns. Nick Hershberger rushed for 89 yards.

Brody Pinciaro had a 60-yard interception return for a touchdown.

GIRLS SOCCER

NASHUA SOUTH 4, CONCORD 2

The Panthers, who trailed 1-0 at the half, vaulted over the .500 mark with four second half goals, including two by Ava Kopiko on a penalty kick and a direct kick of 45 yards. They also got an Addison Varley 20 yarder, and a Natalee Thomas goal.

Corrine Rivera had five saves as the Panthers will face rival Nashua North in the Battle of the Bridge on Tuesday.

NASHUA NORTH 3, MANCHESTER CENTRAL-WEST 0

Allison Frye had two goals and Mary Pappas a goal as the Titans improved to 5-1-1, unbeaten in their last six.

North goalies Nora Ross and Rachel Gauthier combined for five saves.

MILFORD 0, MERRIMACK VALLEY 0 (Friday)

Molly Miles had three saves for the Spartans, now 2-2-2 and set to visit Bow on Tuesday.

BOYS SOCCER

CONCORD 1, NASHUA SOUTH 0

It’s been a frustrating few days for the Panthers at Stellos Stadium, as they have lost two straight 1-0 games, first to Hanover on Thursday and then yesterday.

Now 3-3-1, South will face North on Tuesday in the Battle of the Bridge.

BOYS & GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

MANCHESTR INVITATIONAL

NASHUA SOUTH BOYS SIXTH

The Panthers took sixth in the large school division, while Bishop Guertin’s Matthew Giardina was the top local finisher, taking fourth overall in 16:20.1 at Derryfield Park.

Alvirne (493) was 17th and Bishop Guertin 19th (550). The Panthers totaled 225, while East Lyme was the overall winner (76) with Hanover the top New Hampshire team among the large schools, fourth with 157 points.

South was led by Daniel Byrne (14th, 16:43.4), Camdon Brien (43, 17:26.1), Ryan Duvarney (44, 17:26.7), Andrew Byrne (61, 17:44.0) and Cameron Patronick (71, 17:55.1).

Alvirne’s top runner was Brent Dunning (17:48.5), while after Giardina, BG had Cameron Fischer (28, 17:06.9) and Sam Prescott (77, 17:58.2). Nashua North’s Nate D’Silva (122, 18:37.3) helped theTitans finish 30th, while Merrimack was 32nd, Nathaniel Bergen coming in 139th.

In the Small School Boys Division, Souhegan’s Dallen Noorda was the top local finisher, 15th in 17:19.4 as the Sabers finished 11th. Catholic Memorial won the meet. Milford was 13th and Hollis Brookline 18th.

Will Whitley (37, 18:07.3), Grant Skorupan (71, 18:53.9) and Chase Paiva (82, 19:07) were the top Startans. Jacob Spencer (67, 18:45.8) and Thomas Arnoldy (72, 18:54.9) were other key Sabers. HB was paced by John Masiello (83, 19:07.2).

SOUHEGAN’S SWANBON FOURTH, AS SABER GIRLS TAKE FIFTH

Souhegan had a great day in the Small School Division, finishing fifth (197) led by Samantha Swanbon’s fourth place overall finish in 20:27.6. Other top Sabers were Anna Brammer-Depuy (39, 22:23.5), Sarah Bryson (60, 22:54.8) and Madelyn Mooney (75, 23:33.7).

Hollis Brookline was 15th (347), led Mae Butler (41, 22:26.3).

In the girls large school meet won by Oyster River (59), Nashua North was the top local school, 19th led by Laura White’s 20th place time of 20:04.7. Rosalie Neveu was 52nd in 21:02.3.

Bishop Guertin was 22nd, led by Anna Fonadowski’s 17th place finish in 19:56.8.

Merrimack was 27th with Melanie Bedard leading the way (58, 21:09.8).

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

WINDHAM 3, ALVIRNE 0 (Friday)

Alvirne fell 25-17, 25-18 and 25-12 despite good play by middle hitters Courtney Andeson andLisa Amadi as well as libero Samantha Schiller.

The 0-7 Broncos will try for their first win on Monday.
