We are at week three already as the season is flying by; a third of it will be done after Saturday. That’s why a few of this week’s games are pivotal for some of the locals. Here’s your weekly capsule look:

FRIDAY

DIVISION I

LOWELL (1-0) AT NASHUA SOUTH (2-0)

WHEN: 6:30 p.m.

WHERE: Nashua’s Stellos Stadium.

LAST WEEK: South 22, Keene 0; Westford Academy 14, Lowell 0.

LAST YEAR: Lowell 29, Nashua South 8.

FYI: It will be interesting to see how the Panthers handle this non-league encounter that won’t count in the NHIAA standings. Lowell lost to Westford despite being the beneficiary of three turnovers and allowed two opposing players to combine for 193 yards and gave up a fake punt play of 38 yards. South will have to watch out for Lowell running back Kevin Amankwaah. South’s Cody Jackson continues to grow as the team’s QB, both running and passing.

THE PICK: South 23, Lowell 7. A year makes a big difference in high school football.

NASHUA NORTH (0-2) at KEENE (1-1)

WHEN: 6:30 P.M.

WHERE: Keene’s Alumni Field

LAST WEEK: Nashua South 22, Keene 0; Exeter 36, Nashua North 0.

LAST YEAR: North 21, Keene 18

FYI: Both teams will consider this a must win. Keene is supposed to be strong up front but wilted against South last week, which pretty much enraged Blackbirds coach Linwood Patnode. North had problems up front offensively vs. the two contenders it played, and the run-first Titans, who have been using Darius Smith a lot at running back– he played mostly line last year after the opener – have yet to score a touchdown. They’ll try to see if they can get speedsters like Luke Peters and Dharyus Sisay in space. Keene is led by junior QB Kasen Abbott, tight end Liam Logan and running back Sawyer Lepple.

THE PICK: KEENE 14, NORTH 13. Toughest call of the week. Really the point difference is home field, that’s all.

GOFFSTOWN (0-2) at MERRIMACK (1-0,1-1 overall)

WHEN: 6:30 p.m.

WHERE: MHS Student Memorial Field

LAST WEEK: Merrimack 27, Timberlane 6; Bishop Guertin 28, Goffstown 20.

GOFFSTOWN (0-2) at MERRIMACK (1-0, 1-1 overall)

LAST YEAR: Merrimack 28, Goffstown 8.

FYI: The Tomahawks got a much needed win on the road last week in Plaistow, and we keep saying that their QB, Sahil Mujuwar, is much improved from a year ago. Goffstown is improved as well, led by QB Jayden Pares. Tough to contain, but it’s a must for the ‘Hawks if they want a win.

THE PICK: Merrimack 26, Goffstown 22. ‘Hawks get a win in an entertaining home opener.

TIMBERLANE (0-2) at ALVIRNE (2-0)

WHEN: 7 p.m.

WHERE: Alvirne HS Veteran’s Field.

LAST WEEK: Alvirne 20, Salem 13; Merrimack 27, Timberlane 6.

LAST YEAR: Did not play.

FYI: The Broncos will really draw more attention if they can get off to a 3-0 start, and when was the first time we say that Alvirne can’t take an opponent lightly? Timberlane is still a tough team, paced by back Liam Kelley and QB Jeemy Mlocek. But Alvirne this year have several players who can shine; the latest was two-way standout (RB, DB) Mike Landmesser last week.

THE PICK: Alvirne 27, Timberlane 14. Owls put up a fight, but Alvirne fights back. 3-0, look at ’em go.

DIVISION II

MILFORD (0-2) at HOLLIS BROOKLINE (0-2)

WHEN:, 7 p.m.

WHERE: HBHS Stadium

LAST WEEK: Hanover 42,Milford 12; Manchester West 48, HB 6

LAST YEAR: Milford 42, HB 12

FYI: Both teams got a few more players doing good things last week, even in lopsided defeats. HB QB Jacob Velez continues to be a threat, and Phillip Berke has played well on defense. Milford’s Gavin and Kadyn Tessier can get yardage.

THE PICK: Milford 22, HB 12. Spartans just a tad ahead in their rebuild.

SOUHEGAN (2-0) at JOHN STARK (1-1)

WHEN: 6:30 p.m.

WHERE: John Stark Regional HS

LAST WEEK: Pelham 23, John Stark 12; Souhegan 41, ConVal 0.

LAST YEAR: Souhegan 46,John Stark 12.

FYI: The Sabers continue to roll on offense se,this year led by Michael Fiengo and Ryan Raudelunas. QB Joey Dykstra leads the Generals.

THE PICK: Souhegan 30, JS 12. Sabers will pull away.

SATURDAY

DIVISION I

BEDFORD (2-0) at BISHOP GUERTIN (1-1)

WHEN: 6 P.M.

WHERE: Stellos Stadium.

LAST WEEK: Bishop Guertin 28, Goffstown 20; Bedford 35, Thornton Academy (Me.) 21.

LAST YEAR: Bedford 40, Bishop Guertin 3.

FYI: The Cardinals rushed for 256 yards, keyed by Nate Bowen (100) and A.J. Holmes (101), and that’s the identity behind a good offensive line that they want to have. It could work vs. some teams, and would really help shorten the game vs. the Bulldogs but will still be hard to do against Bedford’s defense. Speaking of defense, the Cards will try to key in on Bedford back Brody Helton, but QB Jack Maye can do a lot, too.

THE PICK: Bedford 30, Bishop Guertin 13.

DIVISION III

CAMPBELL (2-0) at INTER-LAKES/MOULTONBOROUGH (1-0)

WHEN: 12 p.m.

WHERE: Inter-Lakes HS, Meredith.

LAST WEEK: Campbell 43, Sanborn 12; ILM did not play.

LAST YEAR: Campbell 36, ILM 0

FYI: Campbell has enough depth with Scott and Nick Hershberger to withstand an injury to back Braydon White, and will keep plugging away. The Lakers have some keys such as QB Alec Adorno, who threw for 299 yards and three TDs in their opener two weeks ago, so the Cougars will definitely try to be sharp in the secondary. It’ll be interesting to see how the ILM layoff impacts this one.

THE PICK: Campbell 35, Inter-Lakes/Moultonborough 13. First road games aren’t easy, but this one shouldn’t be too hard after a while for the Cougars.
