HS Roundup: BG girls teams win; milestone for HB’s Maguire

It was a sun-splashed Wednesday and the sun was certainly shining on Bishop Guertin’s girls teams as both soccer and field hockey captured wins. In girls volleyball, keep an eye on Merrimack, which is off to its best start in several years.

Plus, it was a special day for Hollis Brookline girls soccer standout McKenna Maguire. You can read on to find out why:

GIRLS SOCCER

BISHOP GUERTIN 5, MANCHESTER CENTRAL 0

The Cardinals (3-1) rolled by Central at home. Ava Suech and Zoe Horton-Sousa scored two goals apiece while Kareena Sondi added one goal. Jess LaCroix and Olivia Baker combined for the shutout in net.

BG visits Winnacunnet on Friday in a big test as the Warriors are 5-0 and unscored upon this young season.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 10, KENNETT 0

The Cavs’ McKenna Maguire scored her 100th career goal — one of five she had – as HB stayed unbeaten at 5-0. It came with 10 minutes remaining as she moved through a crowd of players for the score.

Rosalie DeSantis (two goals, one assist),Kiera King (goal, assist), Molly Reardon (assist), D.D. Lussier (goal), Lily Bouchard (goal), and Marleigh Kreic (two assists) all took part in the offensive explosion.

FIELD HOCKEY

BISHOP GUERTIN 3, SALEM 2 (OT)

Sophie Bilodeau (two goals, assist) scored the game winning goal for the Cardinals (4-1) on an assist from Maddie Harrington (two assists). Other playing well were Sarah Brunelle (goal), Ayla Saeturn (five saves), Jordan Gaebel, Carly Green, Addison Daddona and Gabby Gillette. BG hosts Nashua North on September 16.

CONCORD 2, NASHUA SOUTH 0

The Panther fall to 1-4 in the early season with a shutout loss to Concord. Meury Navarette had 15 saves. Emily Richard, Wylie Hart and Karina O’Donnell played well. South hosts Salem September 16.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

NASHUA SOUTH 3, SPAULDING 2

The Panthers (3-0) defeat Spaulding 25-13, 21-25, 23-25, 25-16, 15-9. Leading South were Mia Suljic (24 kills, 12 digs, three aces), Molly Lecklider (16 kills, 15 digs, eight assists, three aces), Addy Campbell (25 digs). South visits Bedford on September 16.

MILFORD 3, LACONIA 0

The Spartans (3-0) shut down Laconia 25-20, 25-23, 25-23. Making contributions in the win were Kassie Cupin (24 assists, 11 digs, six aces, three kills), Beth Brooks (17 kills, 10 digs, two aces, two blocks), Savannah Watson (11 digs, five kills, two aces), Piper Greenhalgh (20 digs, two assists, two aces) and Abby Krulis (five kills). Milford hosts Manchester Central on Thursday.

SOUHEGAN 3, PELHAM 0

The Sabers (3-0) top the Pythons 25-19, 25-14, 25-16. Julia Colantoni (12 kills, three aces), Reagan Pepin (14 assists, nine aces) and Adeline Corcoran (six kills) played well in the win. Souhegan hosts Kennett on Friday.

MERRIMACK 3, ALVIRNE 0

The Tomahawks (3-0) sweep the Broncos (0-3) 25-22, 25-17, 25-19. Amelia Walker (eight kills, four aces, two blocks), Rachel Flett (11 kills, seven aces), Leah Monroe (six kills), Noor Eldeib (21 assists, four kills) led Sophia Vital (eight digs) led the Merrimack attack.

Courtney Anderson and Mena Lewis played well for Alvirne. Merrimack visits Bedford on Friday and Alvirne hosts Timberlane on September 16.

GOLF

CONCORD 112, KEENE 213, NASHUA NORTH 217

The Titans fell in a close battle on the course at Bretwood Country Club. Drew Goulet (47), Tommy Dratch (43), Morgan Barry (42) and Conor Prunier led the locals.
