HS Roundup: Opening volleyball wins for several locals

The young high school fall sports season went indoors on Wednesday as several local girls volleyball teams opened their seasons – many successfully so.

Also, on the outdoor side, the Nashua South field hockey team fell to Timberlane at Stellos Stadium.

Here’s your Wednesday rundown:

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

NASHUA NORTH 3, PORTSMOUTH 1

The Titans captured their season opener and gave new coach Cassandra Desfosses her first North win. Taylor Joyal, Kaylee Simonds and Johanna Desfosses led the way in what their coach called “a true team effort.”

MERRIMACK 3, KEENE 0

The Tomahawks rolled with a 25-5, 25-12, 25-10 sweep, paced by Amelia Walker (six kills, six aces), Rachel Flett (seven kills), Leah Monroe (seven kills, six aces) and Noor Eldeib (18 assists, two kills)

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 3, PINKERTON 2

The Cavs captured the fifth set 15-7, their third straight set win as they rallied from a 2-0 deficit in their opener. They fell 14-25, 26-28 to start but rallied 25-13, 25-22 to even things up.

Anika Carlson had nine aces – five in the final set — and seven kills, while Maggie Noble (10 kills, five aces) and Kate Berrigan (10 kills, three aces) were big. So were Lolly Adair (13 kills) and Alana Adams (five aces)

HB is at Concord on Friday.

EXETER 3, ALVIRNE 0

The Broncos fought hard in a 25-16, 25-19, 27-25 loss. Playing well were setter Mena Lewis, leading the team in assists with several aces. Also, middle hitters Courtney Anderson, Kloey Zink and Lisa Amadi contributed kills and blocks. Aliana Giroux played well on defense and also had several service aces.

SOUHEGAN 3, MANCHESTER WEST 0

Julia Colantoni had 11 kills and four aces to pace the Sabers in their opener, while Reagan Pepin added six kills, three aces and Brynn Biscovich had five kills and three aces.

MILFORD 3, PLYMOUTH 0

The Spartans cruised with set wins of 25-14, 25-11, 25-20. Abby Krulls (seven kills, six digs), Kassie Cupin (nine aces, three digs, 20 assists, one kill), Amelia Hebert (four aces, two kills) and Beth Brooks (10 kills, one ace, one black, four digs) were all huge in the win.

FIELD HOCKEY

TIMBERLANE 6, NASHUA SOUTH 2

The Panthers only mustered goals by Wylie Hart and Saige Devins, with assists going to Keegan Dolan and Karina O’Donnell. Meury Navarette had seven saves for the Panthers, who visit Bedford on Friday.
