Welcome Back! High school fall season now in full swing

This week you’ll know the high school fall sports season has opened for real.
The “soft open” may have been late this past week when high school soccer and field hockey began. Cross country for a couple of teams started as well.
But this week, all the other sports join in — including football this Friday.
Today, besides some key soccer and field hockey contests, Nashua South opens up its girls volleyball season at Goffstown, and five high school golf teams open up today, including Nashua North and South. It’s been a tough few years for Division I locals as only a couple of teams if any have qualified for the state tourney.
The Titans return several, including seniors Drew Goulet, Warren Farley, and Ryder Clancy, junior Morgan Barry, sophomores Tommy Dratch and Conor Pruner, juniors Dawson Bolton and Sam Kobs.
“The team goal is to qualify for the state tournament and improve consistency every day,” Titans coach Steve Lane said.
Meanwhile, girls volleyball gets underway, with South being the only local in action today. Nashua North and Alvirne get going on Wednesday and most others on Friday.
South returns two key All-Area players from a year ago: Mia Suljic and Molly Lecklider. North, meanwhile, has a new coach, Cassandra Desfosses, who has coached the sport in the system, including at Elm Street Junior High. Alvirne will be young on the court as head coach Jason Lewis may be starting as many as four sophomores while his senior captains are Grace Lavoie, Ava Zaulyczny and Kloey Zink. “There will be some learning bumps for sure,” Lewis said.
A key local soccer game today is at Campbell High School where the Hollis Brookline boys team visits the Cougars. These local teams normally don’t face each other but Campbell moved up to Division II after winning the Division III title last year and both won their season openers.
Another big game this week is in field hockey, when Bedford visits Bishop Guertin at Stellos Stadium on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
And then football opens Friday and Saturday, with two notable games at Stellos Stadium: Two-time defending Division I champion Bedford visits Nashua North on Friday at 6:30 p.m. and in an all local matchup on Saturday, Nashua South takes on Bishop Guertin at Stellos at 6 p.m. The Telegraph’s annual High School Football Preview special section will be in this weekend’s print editon of the Sunday Telegraph, and should be available on newstands, etc. as early as Friday.
Games on.
