Rob Trowbridge felt he could learn a lot about his Nashua High School North tennis team by how it played in its season opener vs. Pinkerton.

He found out they can be resilient and win a close one, and he didn’t have to wait a week do discover that. A few schools, like North, moved their Wednesday season opening matches to Tuesday due to the dire rain-sleet-snow forecast for the next few days. Here are the results from the courts, with some track and field as well:

BOYS TENNIS

NASHUA NORTH 5, PINKERTON 4

The Titans pulled out a thriller in Nashua, with Rudra Patel and Navein Shribalaharan contributing three of the five points, including teaming up at No. 1 doubles for the deciding win. Both players won their singles matches 8-1.

LONDONDERRY 9, MERRIMACK 0

It was a tough start for the Tomahawks, but they competed well at singles Nos.1 through 3 in 8-3 losses each for Mikhail Agapov, Jeremy Nigen and Nithin Sathappan.

GIRLS TENNIS

DERRYFIELD 9, NASHUA SOUTH 0

The Panthers fell in their home opener but got good matches from Piya Chokshi (4-8) at No. 2 singles, Krina Dani at No. 4 (5-8) and Riya Shroff at No.5 (3-8). The No. 2 doubles team of Hannah Jacob/Dani also played well in bowing 8-4.

LONONDERRY 5, MERRIMACK 4

The Tomahawks got three singles wins but only managed one in doubles to fall in a close season opener in Londonderry.

Singles winners for the locals were Katie Costa, 8-0 at No. 1, No. 3 Lina Eldeib 9-8, and No. 5 Lilly Fanchiang 8-6. The No. 1 tandem of Costa/Jess Harden also won 8-1.

Merrimack has its home opener Monday vs. Hanover at Wasserman Park.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 9, MILFORD 0

The Cavs enjoyed a great start, losing just one game in the entire match vs. a Spartans team in which seven of the eight players on the roster are new to the game.

Keira Swart, Anuhy Chilakapati, Anna Heiplik, Emily Frederickson, Kae Berrigan and Iresha Sidhu all triumphed, as did the doubles teams of Swart/Chilakapati, Heiplik/Malaya Colena, and Annalise Walle/Ava Porto.
