HS Roundup: BG baseball falls while Merrimack wins again

One can start to see trends in the local high school spring season as May begins, and for some teams that’s good, but not for others.

Merrimack and Souehgan baseball keep winning, but others have struggled. Wednesday was also a tough day for most on the softball diamond, while Alvirne picked up a big boys lacrosse win and in tennis, Guertin won a close one over the ;Hawks.

But let’s allow you find out it all for yourself:

BASEBALL

TRINITY 9, BISHOP GUERTIN 3

The Cardinals (5-6) see their losing streak reach to five after a loss to the Pioneers. Sam Franco had two hits and two runs and Ryan Haskell added a hit and an RBI. BG visits Merrimack on Friday.

LONDONDERRY 11, NASHUA NORTH 4

The Titans fall to 5-4 on the road to the Lancers. Jayce Martinez tallied one hit, one run and a RBI and Nolan Sullivan had one hit. North hosts Nashua South on Friday.

MERRIMACK 8, BEDFORD 2

Ryan Mainey pitched a complete game allowing two earned runs on five hits and striking out two. Yvan Tejada led the offense with two hits and three RBIs. Merrimack (8-1) hosts Bishop Guertin on Friday.

SOUHEGAN 3, CONVAL 2

Cam Brown (hit, two RBIs) hit a sacrifice fly to win the game for the Sabers (6-2). Alex Trudel got his first varsity win striking out one and allowing no hits in two one-thirds innings pitched.

Nolan Colby (two hits), Matt Silk (hit, run) and Sean Zerega (hit, RBI) contributed to the offense. Souhegan hosts Kingswood on Friday.

WINDHAM 11, ALVIRNE 5

The Broncos (1-9) lose focus and were defeated by the Jaguars. Kyle Dufour (hit, RBI), Mike Bebris (hit, run), Logan Casey (hit, run), Max Francisco (hit, run, two RBIs) and Jaden Lewis (hit, RBI) played well in the loss. Alvirne hosts Trinity on Friday.

MILFORD 8, SANBORN 3

The Spartans (2-4) found their bats and were able to end their four game losing streak. Landon Pierce pitched a complete game striking out four. Logan Howard (two hits, RBI, two stolen bases) and Mike Lima (two hits, two runs, two stolen bases) played well offensively. Milford visits Lebanon on Friday.

SOFTBALLL

LONDONDERRY 12, NASHUA NORTH 0

The Titans became the latest Lancer victim, as Londonderry has now won nine straight by a combined score of 80-3.

Now 0-10, North next will face local rival Nashua South next Tuesday at Rivier University’s Raider Diamond in the Battle of the Bridge.

BISHOP GUERTIN 19, MANCHESTER WEST-TRINITY 0

The Cardinals got a much-needed win, snapping a brief two-game skid to improve to 5-3. BG hosts Merrimack on Friday.

MERRIMACK 16, BEDFORD 6

The Tomahawks improved to 6-3 as Lily Dionned checked the ‘Dogs on six hits with eight strikeouts. Meanwhile, the Merrimack offense went to work with 12 players having at least a hit. Marrisa Nelson had three hits and two RBIs while Dionne, Bayliegh Robichaud (three RBIs), Julianna Nobrega, Sam Martin (three RBIs) and Kate Coolidge all had two hits a piece.

COE-BROWN 17, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 0

The Cavs fall to 5-2 after getting shutout by a stout Coe-Brown squad. Emily Tebbetts had a double and Savannah Duquette added abas hit. HB visits Hanover on Friday.

BOYS LACROSSE

ALVIRNE 17, KEENE 2

Jon Santana (two assists) found the back of the net seven times to lead the Broncos (4-4) on Wednesday.

Cedrik Beaulieu (five goals), Ryan Tobin (three goals), Brandon Lavarnaway (one goal), Aidan Mills (one goal), Ayden Kelly (11 saves), Cam Drohan (four ground balls), Brody Orr (10 faceoffs) and Ryan Hurrell (two assists) contributed for the locals.

Alvirne visits Hillsboro-Deering on Friday.

INTER-LAKES 10, MILFORD 4

Mitch Broadhurst netted his first goal in the Spartans (0-5) loss. Braydon Atwood scored twice and Tyler Decoteaux had a goal and an assist and Brenna Cassidy collected 11 saves. Milford hosts Kearsarge on Friday.

GIRLS LACROSSE

BISHOP GUERTIN 18, MERRIMACK 7

BG improved to 6-2 with Kamryn Schmitt, Anna Campel, Mariella Tomasello gettng two goals/two assists apiece while Abby Lynn, Jordan Gaebel, Lauren Redfern, Arianna Kouchalakos and Skylar Naftali getting two goals each.

Bella Dawson and Sarah Brunelle each had a goal while Lola Dumont (assist, eight draw controls) and Kendra Haley (assist) also helped.

BG goalies Emmerson Danis and Haley Mitchell combined for six saves.

ST. THOMAS 21, CAMPBELL 5

The Cougars (1-5) drop their fourth game in a row. Ava Grant netted a hat trick with Madeline Cuvelier and Lili Wilson each scored a goal. Campbell hosts Derryfield on Friday.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 9, BOW 8

Addison Dougherty (14 saves) got her 200th career save in the Cavs (4-3) win over the Falcons. Cailean Roy (four goals, assist), Sabrina Hill (three goals, three assists) and Samantha Smith (two goals) led the offense. HB hosts Exeter on Friday.

BOYS TENNIS

BISHOP GUERTIN 5, MERRIMACK 4

The Cardinals (4-2) squeeze by the Tomahawks (0-6) on Wednesday. Singles winners for BG were Jack Kostansek (8-3), Evan Deyak (8-0), Jaime Gomez-Herrera (8-1) and Jonny Parrot (8-1). Doubles winners were the team of Kostansek/Deyak (8-4).

Winning in singles action for Merrimack were Nithin Sathappan (9-8, 7-5) and Felix Rattunde (8-6). Winning in doubles were Jeremy Nigen/Wayne Alexander (8-1) and Lucas Goldberg/Rattunde (8-1). BG hosts Salem and Merrimack visits Hanover on Thursday.

GIRLS TENNIS

BEDFORD 9, ALVIRNE 0

The Broncos (2-6) went down to the Bulldogs on Wednesday. Emma Coppi went down in the closest match 8-6. Alvirne hosts Bishop Guertin on Friday.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

JOHN STARK 3, BISHOP GUERTIN 2

The Cardinals (1-5) fell for the fourth straight match 21-25, 11-25, 25-15, 25-30, 12-15. Will Howell collected eight kills, Sean Schultz had 15 assists and Martin Dormer had 22 digs. BG visits Mascenic on Friday.

COE-BROWN 3, SOUHEGAN 0

The Sabers (7-1) falter for the first time this season by the scores of 22-25, 23-25, 21-25. Everette Boyer tallied 11 kills and two aces, Addison Hodgdon had 10 kills and Dallen Norda collected three kills and three blocks. Souhegan visits Keene on May 6.
