HS Roundup: North-Souhegan gets big win; Bedford hoop sweeps BG

Friday is usually a day reserved for basketball, but we also have a big local makeup hockey game plus the rescheduled Division I and II boys skiing to throw into the mix.

Here’s the rundown:

BOYS HOCKEY

NORTH-SOUHEGAN 2, GOFFSTOWN 1 (OT)

Chase McBride’s unassisted goal at 1:33 of sudden death overtime gave the Saber-Titans a big win to help keep their tournament hopes alive at Conway Arena.

Jacob Landry gave the locals a 1-0 lead at 5:41 of the second period, assisted by McBride and Andrew Cullinane, but the Grizzlies tied it up in the third on a Sam Chapman goal assisted by Zack Tarrier at 4:40.

Zache Veilleux had 31 saves for North-Souhegan,which is now 7-8 and takes on city rival Nashua South-Pelham on Monday night at Conway Arena.

BOYS BASKETBALL

NASHUA NORTH 58, MANCHESTER CENTRAL 46

Parth Miglani puts in 21 points to lead the Titans (12-4) to their eighth consecutive win. Alize Roig-Cortez scored 13 points with Robinson rodriguez and Luke Peters adding 10 apiece. North hosts Portsmouth on Tuesday.

ALVIRNE 65, SALEM 50

Garrett Hall’s 16 point effort helped lead the Broncos (9-7) over the Blue Devils. Gabe Conrow recorded 13 points and five assists and Sammy DeWitt collected 12 points and seven assists. Alvirne visits Bedford on Tuesday.

BEDFORD 104, BISHOP GUERTIN 76

If you wanted to watch offense, the Colligadome was the place to be on Friday, as the Cards(4-12) got 23 points from Eli Youssef and 20 by Connor McGowan. The problem was, the 15-1 Bulldogs took a 48-34 halftime led and ran away with it, led by Luke Soden’s 28 points and 23 by Niko Badoian.

BG hosts Exeter on Tuesday.

LEBANON 59, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 51

The Cavs (4-13) lose a close battle and suffer their seventh straight loss. Alton Williams recorded 11 points and 14 rebounds with James Arthur and Cam Kump adding 14 points each. HB visits Oyster River on Monday.

PEMBROKE 87, MILFORD 45

The Spartans (5-12) had no match for Pembroke’s fast pace and shooting. Kai Lau Quan led Milford with 16 points and Ethan Szopa finished with nine. Milford hosts Coe-Brown on Thursday.

MERRIMACK VALLEY 53, SOUHEGAN 46

The Sabers (8-8) run of eight straight wins comes to an end on Friday night. Weston Hickman scored 15 points and Nolan Colby added 11. Souhegan visits Manchester West on Tuesday.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

NASHUA SOUTH 52, MERRIMACK 45

The Panthers (7-9) get by the Tomahawks (0-16) on Friday night. Morgan Gillis had a game high 17 points and Karina O’Donnell scored 12 for South. Merrimack’s Gianna Maglio tallied 13 points.

South visits Spaulding and Merrimack visits Windham on Tuesday.

BEDFORD 59, BISHOP GUERTIN 23

The Cardinals couldn’t match up with the unbeaten (16-0) Bulldogs, who got 20 points from Lyla Stein and 15 from Kate Allard. Thalia Draeau had 10 and Holly Dufoe seven for the Cards, now 6-9 and at Exeter on Wednesday.

NASHUA NORTH 52, MANCHESTER CENTRAL-WEST 41

Lily Small collects 23 points in the Titans (7-9) win over Central-West. Angie King and Jordan Cottier scored 11 and seven points respectively. North visits Portsmouth on Tuesday.

SALEM 59, ALVIRNE 43

The Broncos (9-7) winnings streak ends at four when they visited the Blue Devils. Ella Hartson scored 14 points and Courtney Anderson had nine. Alvirne hosts Bedford on Tuesday.

PEMBROKE 56, MILFORD 44

The Spartans (8-9) kept it close until a third quarter breakout for Pemrboke that opened up the game. Ellianna Nassy paced Milford with 13 points with Claire Cote and Shea Hansen adding 11 apiece. Milford hosts Coe-Brown on Wednesday.

BOYS SKIING

DIVISION I CHAMPIONSHIPS

BISHOP GUERTIN SEVENTH, NASHUA SOUTH EIGHTH

Portsmouth is your Divsion I boys Alpine champion with 746 points, ahead of second place Keene (704) and third place Bedford (687).

Bishop Guertin finished seventh with 577 combined Giant Slalom and Slalom points, just ahead of Nashua South (543). Merrimack was 10th (495) while Nashua North was 15th (370).

Bishop Guertin’s Austin Harvey placed third with a time of 1:13.80 in the Giant Slalom and Maximus DeRosa finished 10th. BG finished fifth with a total of 319 points in the Giant Slalom team event, represented by Harvey, DeRosa, Finley Bouvier, Joseph Neal and Nathan Rappoli.

Nashua South had 259 points placing in eighth in the Giant Slalom with the team of Tommy Crook, Timmy Crook, Matt Walter and Chase Swisher. The same member for South also placed seventh in the Slalom. Tommy Crook (1:19.4) finished seventh and Timmy Crook (1:20.7) was 11th in the individual Slalom. Crook, Crook, Swisher and Walters placed seventh with 284 points in the team Slalom event.

BG was 10th in the Slalom with 258 points and represented by Bouvier, Harvey, Neal, Rappoli and DeRosa. Merrimack’s Brent Clark, Andrew Mortimer, Brady Matte, Connor Streeter, Carter Theriault and Lincoln Stubbs finished ninth with 263 points.

DIVISION II BOYS

HOLLIS BROOKLINE FOURTH, SOUHEGAN 12TH

Hanover, as expected, captured the title with 762 combined points, ahead of Kennett (748) and Bow (666). The Cavaliers were fourth at 628. Souhegan was 12th at 377.

The Sabers’ Darren Leary was fifth in the GS in 1:02.41 while teammmate Reid Kimball was ninth (1:03.59). Mason Marshall led the Cavs in the GS, 17th in 1:05.52 while teammate Logan Garin was 21st and Matt Kellner 33rd.

In the Slalom, Leary was fourth in 1:12.57 while Kimball was once again ninth, in 1:13.71. HB’s Marshall was 13th (1:15.04) while Garin was 15th in 1:16.02.
