HS Roundup: Spartans gets hoop sweep over Cavaliers
It wasn’t as busy a Tuesday night on the local high school front as we’re used to during the winter, but there was certainly some drama for the Milford boys basketball team. And more winning for a Souhegan boys team that started the year at 0-7 and hasn’t lost since. Incredible.
The Milford girls also won a big one against local rival Hollis Brookline, as did the Bishop Guertin girls hockey team over Souhegan. And speaking of Souhegan… well, we’ll let you read on:
BOYS BASKETBALL
MILFORD 63, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 62
Will O’Connell was able to get the put back off the front rim for the Spartans (5-11) at the buzzer to defeat the Cavs (4-12). O’Connell and Kai Lau Quan each put the team on their backs by recording 27 points apiece. James Arthur led the team with 22 points and Alton Williams scored 18 points; Dylan Kelley added 11 and Cameron Kump had 10 for HB.
Milford hosts Pembroke and HB visits Lebanon on Friday.
SOUHEGAN 39, CONVAL 22
Weston Hickman and Sean Zerega had eight points apiece as the Sabers won their eight straight game to vault over.500 at 8-7, and will host Merrimack Valley on Friday.
TRINITY 66, BISHOP GUERTIN 54
The Cardinals (4-11) drop their fourth straight game with a home loss to the Pioneers. Connor McGowan scored 13 points, Connor Cote collected 12, Eli Youssef tallied eight, Logan Lowney added seven and Matt Chau had six.
BG hosts Bedford on Friday.
ALVIRNE 46, DOVER 36
Sammy DeWitt had 21 points and seven rebounds while Andrew Deely had 12 points as the Broncos moved to 8-7, winners of four of their last five. They host Salem on Friday.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
MILFORD 45, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 39
The Spartans improve to 8-8 with a narrow victory over the Cavs (7-9). Milford trailed 22-18 at halftime, but outscored HB in the third quarter 19-8 to take a 37-30 lead going into the fouth quarter. Avery Fuller had a game high 17 points, Shea Hansen tallied eight and Claire Cote added seven. Playing well for HB were Emily Tebbetts (14 points), Grace Dow (eight points) and Julia Robbins (eight points).
Milford visits Pembroke and HB hosts Concord Christian on Friday.
SOUHEGAN 42, CONVAL 12
The Sabers (2-12) cruise past ConVal in their Claws for a Cause fundraiser game Tuesday night. Mishka Tower led the way with nine points, Zofia Rosenfield had eight and Caroline Drum had seven.
Souhegan visits Merrimack Valley on Friday.
GIRLS HOCKEY
BISHOP GUERTIN 8, SOUHEGAN 0
Riley Goldthwaite and Carly Green paced the Cardinals (12-2) with two goals and an assist apiece in the shutout win. Gracie Menicci (goal, assist), Grace Spengler (goal, two assists), Kate Oskirko (goal), Ennis Haddad (goal), Natalie Gaffey (assist), Giada Kennedy (assist) and Aine Kelley (assist) contributed to the offense.
Ciara Fallon and Scar Casey combined for the shutout. BG visits Hanover on Saturday.
