HS Roundup: No-no for HB’s Kump; 100th goal for Waters

It was a wild Wednesday to say the least.

Some tough losses, big wins, and some individual milestones and great performances all around for area school spring teams.

On the big win side, Hollis Brookline softball beat Pelham thanks to a no-no thrown by its ace pitcher; on the loss side, the Bishop Guertin tennis team suffered its first of the spring, and on the individual side Milford’s Kelci Waters and Campbell’s Kristina Castellano hit carer milestones in the same game.

BASEBALL

PINKERTON 8, BISHOP GUERTIN 1

The Cardinals (9-5) drop a tough one on the road to the Astros. Ben Greiger two and one-third innings, allowing two hits and one unearned run, while striking out four in relief. Jackson Goldstein had two hits and a run. BG hosts Nashua South on Friday.

NASHUA NORTH 10, MANCHESTER CENTRAL-WEST 0

The Titans bounced back from a tough loss Monday to improve to 7-5. Elias Bourque, Derek Finlay, JOey Deck and Richie Tavarez all had multiple hits, accounting for five RBIs. Bourque pitched five innings, striking out four.

North hosts Pinkerton today at Holman Stadium.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 13, PELHAM 0

Zak Lussier pitched a shutout, allowing one hit and striking out nine in the Cavs (8-3) win. Jack Lager, Jonah Winsor and Travis Lafontaine all had multiple hits. HB visits Lebanon on Friday.

BOW 10, MILFORD 9

The Spartans (4-6) lose their third in a row on Wednesday afternoon. Logan Howard (two RBIs, stolen base), Bryce Larco, Chris Bedard, Trice Cote and Nick Conforti all collected multiple hits. Milford hosts Laconia on Thursday.

CAMPBELL 8, INTER-LAKES 6

The Cougars squeeze by Inter-Lakes and improves to 10-1. Luke Delia pitched five innings, allowing five runs on eight hits to earn the win. Delia (triple, three RBIs) and Jack Kidwell (double, two RBIs) supplied the offense. Campbell visits Bishop Brady on Friday.

SOFTBALL

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 2, PELHAM 0

The Cavs improve to 8-3 after wrangling up the Pythons. Austyn Kump threw a no hitter and struck out 14 batters. Katrina Lee (two singles), Kump (double), Sophia Brickner (single, RBI) and Kailey Disco (RBI) led the locals. HB visits Lebanon on Friday.

MERRIMACK 13, NASHUA SOUTH 1

The Tomahawks (6-5) take care of business against the visiting Panthers (3-7). Jules Nobrega (double, triple, four RBIs), Marissa Nelson (three hits) and Avery Hui (three hits) led the Merrimack offense. Hui pitched five innings allowing one run on one hit and striking out six.

South’s Morgan Gills hit a RBI single to score their only run of the game. Jillian Daley pitched four innings, allowing 11 hits and 11 runs while striking out two. Merrimack hosts Winnacunnet on Thursday and South hosts Bishop Guertin on Friday.

MANCHESTER CENTRAL 16, NASHUA NORTH 4

The Titans (0-10) continue to search for a win after another loss on Wednesday. Nicki Gates tallied three RBIs and Kayla Dahl added one. Emma Church struck out one over two innings. North visits Pinkerton on Thursday.

PINKERTON 4, BISHOP GUERTIN 3

The Cardinals (5-7) jumped ahead early, but couldn’t maintain the lead and fall to the Astros. Michaella Bowen pitched four innings before Bailey Doyle came in for relief in the fifth.

Bowen also led the Cardinals offense with two hits and two RBIs. BG visits Nashua South on Friday.

BOYS LACROSSE

ALVIRNE 16, NASHUA NORTH 5

The Broncos (5-6) win their third straight game by defeating the Titans (4-8). Jon Santana scored six goals, Connor Hall had four, Cedrick Bealieau and Cole Buckham each had three. Joey Ribeck won 15 face-offs and Ayden Kelly made nine saves.

North’s Jack Peters (two assists), Brody Sutton and Austin Kaminaris all scored two goals apiece; while Jace Colon made six saves. Alvirne visits ConVal on Tuesday and North hosts Londonderry on Thursday.

WINDHAM 10, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 9 (OT)

The Cavs (7-5) fall in extra time to the Jaguars. Connor Cook and Noah Natalino (assist) each tallied a hat trick. Ben Dufoe (assist) and Tommy Anderson had two goals each, while Noah Taylor and JP Torgersen (assist) added one apiece.

HB visits Winnacunnet on Friday.

ALVIRNE 16, NASHUA NORTH 5

NASHUA SOUTH 13, DERRYFIELD 2

Ella Benzekri scored four goals with an assist in the Panthers (9-2) rout over Derryfield. Katrina O’Donnell (two goals, assist), Maren Lowell (two goals, assist), Maizie Barker (two goals), Maddy Matylewski (two goals) and Anna Pasquale (goal, assist) played great offensively. Keira Walsh made five saves in net. South hosts Portsmouth on Friday.

SOUHEGAN 18, MERRIMACK 7

Emma Kennedy (five assists) and Lyla Kimball each scored six goals in the Sabers (5-5) win over the Tomahawks (5-5). Others adding to the win were Natalie Heimarck (three goals), Abby Giannetti (goal, assist), Lyla Hawkes (goal), Riley Devine (goal, assist) and Catie Schriever (seven saves). Souhegan hosts Londonderry and Merrimack visits Portsmouth on Monday.

MILFORD 19, CAMPBELL 9

Kelci Waters scored seven goals including her 100th career goal in the Spartans’ (6-4) much needed win over the Cougars (1-9). Others scoring for Milford were Bailey Johnson (six goals), Kate Hansen (two goals), Alena Latendre (goal), Addi Pare (goal), Lacey Densmoore (goal) and Clare Cote (goal). Campbell’s Kristina Castellano recorded eight goals and an assist, while grabbing her 100th career point. Milford visits Trinity and Campbell hosts Plymouth on Friday.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 3, BISHOP GUERTIN 0

The Cavs (9-0) defeat the Cardinals (2-6) 25-7, 25-14, 25-11. Standouts for HB were Aidan Norris with seven kills, Martin Bergeron with two aces and 10 service points and Kyle Sanborn with five kills. HB hosts Winnacunnet on Friday and BG hosts Mascenic on Thursday.

BOYS TENNIS

DERRYFIELD 8, BISHOP GUERTIN 1

Guertin’s unbeaten hopes came to an end, as they managed just one point, an 8-6 win at No. 1 singles by Nick Xie.

But that was it. They had a couple of close matches – Sean Finnegan and Will Moynihan fell 8-5 at Nos. 6 and 3, respectively.

BG hosts Nashua North today.

NASHUA SOUTH 8, MANCHESTER CENTRAL 1

The Panthers won their eighth straight, taking five of six singles with Abhinav Avvaru (8-1), Atul Phadke (8-3), Ansh Khanna (8-5), Shrey Shah (8-1) and Jerry Primo (8-0) leading the way.

They swept doubles with Avvaru/Phadke (8-0), Zhu/Khanna (8-2) and Sullivan/Shah (8-0).

South heads up to Hanover today to resume a suspended match in which they trail 3-2.

GOFFSTOWN 7, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 2

The Cavaliers (5-6) only managed wins by Bryson Giersh at No. 1, 9-8 (7-5) and Sam Anthony at No. 2, 8-3.

HB hosts Lebanon today.

GIRLS TENNIS

NASHUA NORTH 8, MERRIMACK 1

The Titans picked up their second straight win, taking five of six singles with wins by Sanya Rane (8-3), Clare Tran (8-0), Caitlyn Mamos (8-3), Patricia Rodrigues (8-4) and Briele Baxter (8-2).

North swept doubles with Mary Pappas/Tran (8-3), Rane/Mamos (8-3) and Rodrigues/Baxter (8-2) winning.

Merrimack’s lone point came at No. 1 singles with a win by Katie Costa, 8-0.

Merrimack (3-9) is off until it hosts Bedford next Wednesday while North (5-6) hosts BG today for its third match in three days.

DOVER 9, ALVIRNE 0

Nothing went right for the Broncos, who suffered their second straight loss and fell to 7-4.

“This team beat us,” Alvirne coach Mo Leclerc said of the 10-0 Green Wave. “The other losses this season we had a chance to win.We were dominated.”

SOUHEGAN 9, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 0

The Sabers (9-1) keep rolling, this time behind usual singles winners Callie Perrin (8-4), Caroline Drum (9-8, 7-0), Tylee Jancar (8-1), Mishka Tower (8-0), Tess Jancar (8-6), and Keelin Lewellyn (8-0).

Doubles teams Perrin/Tower (8-6), Crum/Tylee Jancar (8-00 and Megan Sinner/Lewellyn (8-3) completed the sweep.

HB (4-7) got good efforts from Amhya Chilakarpti (tiebreaker loss at No. 2), and Iresha Sidu (8-6 loss at No. 4.).

The Cavs host Portsmouth Friday while Souhegan hosts Kingswood.
