HS Roundup: Cavs ease past Sabers again; Titans bounce back

The Hollis Brookline High School girls soccer team showed its might a month ago when it hosted Souhegan, and the Cavaliers did it again on Wednesday with a resounding win. Bishop Guertin also won its second game in two days, while Nashua North bounced back from its first girls volleyball loss with a big win.

Here’s a look at Wednesday’s local action:

GIRLS SOCCER

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 6, SOUHEGAN 0

The Cavaliers (8-1) capture their fifth win in a row with a victory over the Sabers (3-5) as McKenna Maguire led the offensive unit with four goals.

Kiera King and Rosalie DeSantis had one goal each. Addison Fyfe, Lily Bouchard and Lauren Holt each tallied an assist. Goalie Bailey Dunn collected two saves.

HB hosts ConVal on Saturday and Souhegan visits Lebanon on Friday.

BISHOP GUERTIN 2, SALEM 0

The Cardinals improved to 7-1-1 as they got goals from Brooke Paquette and Renee LeBlanc, with assists going to Ari Kouchalakos and Ava Suech.

Guertin hosts Winnacunnet Saturday afternoon at Stellos Stadium.

RAYMOND 1, CAMPBELL 0

The Cougars (7-1) suffered their first loss of the season in a defensive battle. Heidi Smith, Alex Wallenmaier and Morgan Wagner all had great games. Campbell visits Conant on Saturday.

FIELD HOCKEY

BEDFORD 8, NASHUA SOUTH 0

After back-to-back wins the Panthers (2-8) suffer a shutout loss on the road. Kaitlyn Tello played amazing in goal with 30 saves. Maddie Berthiaume, Brady Murray and Ava Foss also played well for the locals. South hosts Merrimack on Saturday.

KEENE 7, NASHUA NORTH 0

The Titans (0-10) remain winless in a shutout loss to Keene. Abby O’Malley (14 saves), Molly Ducharme and Leah Flannery were highlights on North’s afternoon. North visits Pinkerton on Friday.

EXETER 5, BISHOP GUERTIN 2

The Cardinals (6-3-1) lost on the road to a stout Blue Hawks squad. Katy Paveglio scored on an assist from Maddy Hartstock and Taylor Guibord put one in the net with an assist from Maddie Harrington.

Bella Rioux had 16 saves in net. BG hosts Manchester Memorial on Saturday.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

NASHUA NORTH 3, SPAULDING 1

The Titans (9-1) get back to winning by defeating Spaulding 21-25, 25-15, 25-23, 26-24. Sasha Riabova (17 assists, four aces, three digs), Mardy Novak (13 assists, nine digs, eight kills, three aces), Kelechi Okorie (five kills, five blocks), Kailyn Sung (14 digs) and Katrina Norton (seven digs, six kills) led the attack for North. North visits Pinkerton on Friday.

NASHUA SOUTH 3, KEENE 0

The Panthers improve their record to 5-4 after defeating Keene 25-17, 25-12, 25-13. Mia Suljic (five kills, five digs, five aces), Carolann Mathieu (four kills, three digs, two aces) and Morgan Gillis (four kills, two blocks) played well in the sweep. South hosts Dover on Thursday.

BISHOP GUERTIN 3, TIMBERLANE 0

The Cardinals enjoyed a 25-14, 25-13, 25-19 sweep that puts them at 7-3. Larisa Comolli had 14 kills, eight aces, and six digs while Meg Stadk added five kills. Brooke Partridge (19 assists,two aces) and Veronica gomez (three aces, 14 digs) also had good games.

SALEM 3, MERRIMACK 1

The Tomahawks (1-8) lose their fourth straight game by the scores of 25-23, 23-25, 23-25, 26-28. Lily Petroceli and Amelia Walker had nine kills apiece; Sam Lynch added 12 assists and Mia Mantini collected 13 digs. Merrimack hosts Portsmouth on Friday.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 3, PORTSMOUTH 1

The Sabers took the first two sets then won the fourth, 25-8, 25-16, 21-25, 25-13 to move to 8-1 on the season.

Cheyene Colbert had a big night, with 18 kills and five blocks. Annette Schlunk added 13 kills. Other key contributors were Gwynn Thomas (3 aces, 9 assists), Sophie Jordan (24 assists), and Maia Schneider (20 digs).

The Cavs host Windham on Friday.

GOLF

TIMBERLANE 209, ALVIRNE 212, MILFORD 224

The locals were bested by the Timberlane at Amherst Country Club Wednesday afternoon. Alvirne’s Noah LeClair missed medalist by one stroke with a 38. Alex Small hit a 44, while Dylan McCarthy and Logan Casey both shot a 44.

DOVER 201, BISHOP GUERTIN 217, SALEM 227

Connor Bouvier shot a 40 and Joe DeKarski 41 at Cochecho as the Cards split to stand at 8-12. Michael McLaughlin (43) and Owen Murphy (44) also helped BG out.

WINDHAM 191, WINNACUNNET 196, OYSTER RIVER 210, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 214

The Cavs couldn’t gain any ground at Windham Country Club but got a 41 from Reid Mitchell and a 42 from Charlie Hale. Martin Begeron (44) and Cavan Quinn (46) also shot well.
