Thursdays are often quiet in the world of high school sports.

Not this Thursday. We had a career milestone for a pitcher, a boys lacrosse game won after a protest was upheld, and a split in the Division II girls tennis quarterfinals. And plenty more:

BASEBALL

NASHUA SOUTH 5, WINNACUNNET 1

Pitcher Max Demers had another big day , getting his 100th varsity career strikeout (he finished with eight), while allowing just one run on four hits over a complete game seven innings. He also had a hit and a run scored.

Anderson Tolentino had two hits while Jacoby Caissie had two hits and three RBIs.

South, now 9-9, will wrap up the regular season today at Holman vs. Manchester Central-West at 6 p.m.

BISHOP GUERTIN 5, ALVIRNE 1

The Cards outhit the Broncos 10-3 as Liam Ireland went 2 for 2 with a homer and three runs scored and Gavin Santos drove in two runs going 2 for 3. Jake Bowen also went 2 or 3. Coope Hand started but the Cards, in the regular season finale for both, used five pitchers in getting the win.

Alvirne got a homer by Jameson Krueger in the final at-bat of his Broncos career. Alvirne finished up at 4-14. Guertin is now 14-5 and will likely host a first round Division I tournament game Wednesday at Holman Stadium.

SOFTBALL

BISHOP GUERTIN 16, ALVIRNE 2

Avery Zapanas went 4 for 5 with a homer, double and two singles as the Cards (9-9) rolled in their regular season finale with a 12-hit attack. They broke things open with six runs in the top of the third.

Maris Bilodeau had three hits and five RBIs while Lanna Bernier had three of BG’s 10 walks while tossing five innings of five-hit ball, not allowing an earned run whiile fannng eight and walking one.

Alvirne, finished for the season at 1-17, was led by Olivia Burtt (hit, RBI) and Em Powers (2 for 3).

The Cards now will await next week’s tourney pairings and will likely play in a first round game next Wednesday.

SOUHEGAN 9, MILFORD 4

The Sabers rolled in the battle of local rivals to wrap up the regular season at 7-9. Milford fell to 5-11 despite two hits an d an RBI from Alivia Mazzeo, who also pitched a complete game striking out five.

Arabelle Danforth (hit, RBI), plus Lillian Webster, Arianna Wales and Nadia Dutton (hit each) also played well.

BOYS LACROSSE

SOUHEGAN 6,HANOVER 5 (OT)

Mason Mobley scored the game-winner in overtime for the Sabers in a resumption of a game that was protested by the Sabers, who were hit with an incorrect penalty due to the incorrect measurement of a stick a couple of weeks ago. The protest was obviously won.

The fourth quarter was replayed from when the call was orginially made at the start of the fourth quarter with the Sabers trailing the Bears 5-3. Saber freshman Judd Harris scored at the start of the period to tie the game.

Liam Bacon also had a goal, while Nate Hill had two assists and Sean Reardon five saves in goal.

GIRLS LACROSSE

SOUHEGAN 19, SALEM 0

Libby Kennedy had six goals while Izzy Stevensen added three goals and four assists as the Sabers (15-1) rolled in their regular season finale.

Lanai Hickman had two goals while single goals were by Emmie Curran, Meredith Heimarck, Emilia Koch, Gwen Allen, Hailey Christiensen, Abby Gray and Madeline Houle.

Molly Benson had three saves in the shutout for Souhegan, which has won 13 straight and will await the Division I tournament next week.

GIRLS TENNIS TOURNEY

DIVISION II QUARTERINALS

NO. 1 SOUHEGAN 9, NO. 8 BOW 0

The Sabers cruised with wins by their usual lineup led by Callie Perrion and Ori Dart.They will take on No. 4 Plymouth on Monday at 4 p.m. at Camp Young Judea in Amherst.

Souhegan’s Sophia Yates won a tense 9-7 match and Elli Brower had a comeback 8-3 win.

NO. 3 TIMBERLANE 7, NO. 6 HOLLIS BROOKLINE2

The Cavs otherwise good season ended at 10-6, with wins by Anna Heiplik at No. 1 (8-6) and Maddie Barich at No. 5 (8-3).

Timberlane will be at Portsmouth in Monday’s semis.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

SALEM 3, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 0

The Cavs were beaten 25-18, 25-18,25-17, despite nine kills by Jameson Evelyn and eight kills by Ben Leclerc.

Jack Barnes (four kills). Barnes, Cal Carlson and Thomas Hood were solid at the net.

HB, which has been in the last four finals, wrapped up a 3-13 rebuilding season. The Cavs’ JV team will be competing in the Division I JV tournament this Saturday.
