HS Roundup: Bats booming for Panthers, Cards, Warriors

The weathers getting warmer, and the bats are booming.

It was that way Wednesday for a few local baseball teams, as Nashua South, Bishop Guertin and Wilton-Lyndeborough all scored in double figures in wins.

Meanwhile, the Nashua South boys tennis team captured its 10th straight, and the Souhegan girls won setting up an interesting match today.

BASEBALL

NASHUA SOUTH 11, ALVIRNE 1

The Panthers (10-5) win their third game in a row while serving the Broncos (4-12) their third straight loss. River Hart had a double, two runs and four RBIs with Albert De La Rosa adding a home run, three runs and two RBIs to lead South’s high powered offense.

Nick Shaw pitched a complete game for the Panthers giving up four hits, one run and striking out two.

South visits Windham and Alvirne visits Manchester Central on Friday.

BISHOP GUERTIN 10, GOFFSTOWN 4

The Cardinals (8-8) get back on track after losing their previous three games. Evan Kaplo got the win on the mound pitching six innings, allowing one run on three hits and striking out seven.

BG was led offensively by Dante Nieto (run, RBI) and Ryan Haskell (run, two RBIs).

BG hosts Nashua North on Thursday.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 6, MERRIMACK VALLEY 1

Padge MacSeain went the distance allowing one hit, one run and striking out eight in the Cavaliers (12-1) third straight win. MacSeain (two hits), Alex Razzaboni (homerun, three RBIs), Torin White (three hits), Charles Hale (two hits) and Zak Lussier (triple, RBI) charged the offense.

HB hosts Coe-Brown on Monday.

MILFORD 3, PELHAM 1

The Spartans (4-9) broke open a tie game in the bottom of the sixth when Jake Lammi doubled, scoring a run. Lammi also got the win on the mound, pitching a complete game scattering five hits and striking out 10.

Logan Howard, Damian Philbrick and Chris Bedard had the other hits for the locals.

Milford visits Merrimack Valley on Friday.

WILTON-LYNDEBOROUGH 13, NEWMARKET 1

The Warriors (8-5) enjoyed their biggest win of the year as Troy Brennan tossed a complete game two-hitter, striking out 15, and also hada triple, double, and two walks at the plate.

The rest of the Warriors chipped in with six hits and solid defense.

WLC hosts Portsmouth Christian today. Newmarket fell to 8-4.

SOFTBALL

BISHOP GUERTIN 7, GOFFSTOWN 5

The Cardinals (9-7) picked up a big win on the road against the Grizzlies. Meghan Davey pitched a complete game giving up 11 hits and striking out two. Davey also drove in Meara McDevitt for what would become the winning run in the top of the seventh. Torey Hart had two hits, two runs and two RBIs.

BG hosts Dover on Monday.

MERRIMACK VALLEY 2, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 1

The Cavaliers (9-4) lost a tough battle on the road against Merrimack Valley. Kailey Disco had two hits and an RBI and Megan Park and scored a run.

Austyn Kump pitched eight innings allowing three hits with 11 strikeouts moving her career total to 249. HB hosts Coe-Brown on Monday.

EXETER 16, NASHUA NORTH 0

The Titans (0-14) continue to seek a win after getting shutout by Exeter. Cailin Carbonneau and Taylor Joyal each had a single. Tylea Wong had one strikeout.

North hosts Londonderry on Friday.

LONDONDERRY 4, MERRIMACK 2

The Tomahawks (8-5) lose their second straight game despite the fact Kaeley Smith, Avery Hui and Ari Cray had multiple hits for the locals.

Merrimack hosts Manchester Central on Thursday.

BOYS LACROSSE

NASHUA SOUTH 13, MERRIMACK 8

The Panthers (11-4) get back to their winning ways after dropping their last three contests. Griffin Johnson tallied four goals and two assists, Nate Campbell recorded two goals and three assists and Connor Rowsell had a hat trick to lead South’s offense. Rhett Medling (two goals), Ryan Salemi (two assists), Parker Fleury (goal, assist) and Michael Rutstein (goal) finished South’s scoring and Ethan Johnson made 17 saves in net.

Kyle Dunn, Alec Viety (assist) and Matt Todd (assist) each scored two goals for Merrimack (5-7). Shea Goodwin and Ryan Rezendez each had a goal and Alex Griffin made six saves.

South visits Concord on Saturday and Merrimack visits Keene on Thursday.

BISHOP BRADY 5, MILFORD 4

The Spartans lost a close one on the road Wednesday afternoon. Harris Jones netted two goals that were both assisted by Cade Bouchard. Hugh Palmer (goal, assist), Logan Barnhill (goal) and Andrew Herner (assist) played well on offense.

James Brew (12 saves), Tyler Descoteaux, Luca DeRosa and Justin Desmarais led the defense.

Milford visits Hillsboro-Derring on Thursday.

GIRLS LACROSSE

NASHUA SOUTH 14, MERRIMACK 8

The Panthers improve to 11-3 after their win over the Tomahawks (2-11). Leading the way for South were Ella Benzekri (five goals, seven draw controls), Kylie Dawe (four goals, four assists, six draw controls), Maddy Matylewski (two goals), Anna Pasquale (goal), Bella Walsh (goal) and Karina O’Donnell (goal).

Bailey Carroll, Nessa Reeder, Nevaeh Eppolitto, Soleil Dubois, Jenna Hamelin and Morgan Preston played well defensively. Keira Walsh made five saves and Audrey Mullaney made two saves (100 career saves) in goal.

South has their Senior Night on Friday against Manchester Central and Merrimack hosts Keene on Thursday.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 19, MERRIMACK VALLEY 4

Alyssa Hill (six goals, assist) scored her 100th goal and leads the Cavaliers (11-2) to their sixth straight win. Cailean Roy (assist) netted a hat trick with Sabrina Hill, Irelnad Stark (assist) and Teagan Arbogast scored two goals apiece.

Samantha Smith (goal), McKenna Maguire (goal), Abbie Ogren (goal, three assists), Daniella Allanach (goal) and Maddison Caetano (assist) rounded out the scoring. Hallie Bardani made four saves in net.

HB visits Bromfield School on Thursday.

SOUHEGAN 17, WINDHAM 5

The Sabers (10-3) brought down the Jaguars and won their seven their straight contest. Elle Stevenson (five goals, five draw controls), Mackenzie Cretsinger (two goals, two draw controls), Emma Kennedy (two goals, three groundballs), Lyla Kimball (three goals, two draw controls, two groundballs), Madeline Lim (goal, two groundballs), Natalie Heimarck (two goals, two draw controls, two groundballs), Riley Devine (goal, two assists) and Sierra Kimball (goal) led the offensive outburst.

Souhegan hosts Londonderry on Friday.

BOYS TENNIS

NASHUA SOUTH 6, ALVIRNE 3

The Panthers (10-2)spotted the Meuse brothers usual three points but took the rest of the matches to extend their winning streak to 10.

South won singles No. 3 through No. 6, with the winners being Akil Kammila (8-1), Kaushik Tadipathi (8-1), Mihir Bhalla (8-0) and Shreenath Mohan (8-4).

The Panthers doubles wins were by Kimmila/Tadipathi (8-1) and Bhalla/Mohan (8-3).

For 3-9 lvirne, Peyton Meuse won at No.1 8-2 and Ashton Meuse took No. 2 8-4. The brothers won at No.1 doubles 8-5.

HANOVER 8, BISHOP GUERTIN 1

The Cardinals (10-3) had a tough time against the elite Marauders, managing just Sean Cairs 9-8 (7-4) win in a tiebreaker at No. 5 singles.

Will Moynihan played tough before bowing 8-5 at No. 6 as did the No. 2 doubles team of Ryan Wallat/Aditya Prasad.

BG wraps up the regular season at Winnacunnet today.

BOW 9, SOUHEGAN 0

The Sabers fell to 6-6 in a tough home loss to the Falcons, who wrapped up their regular season at 11-2.

Souhegan will do the same on Friday at home vs. Portsmouth.

GIRLS TENNIS

BEDFORD 7, NASHUA NORTH 2

The Titans managed to get two singles wins against the Bulldogs, but ended their regular season at 6-8, but they should be set to make the 12-team Division I tournament.

Mary Pappas got a big win at No. 1, 8-3, and Caitlyn Mamos won at No. 5, 9-7. Isabella Davidson played tough at No. 6 before bowing 8-6.

SOUHEGAN 6, BOW 3

The Sabers improved to 11-1 to set up a great match today, weather permitting, at fellow 11-1 Division II local Alvirne.
