She was disappointed when her Souhegan High School girls tennis team lost to Portsmouth in the Division II finals last week, but Callie Perrin vowed to make up for it in the individual singles and doubles tourneys.

Well, the Sabers senior did part of that on Tuesday, beating Bedford freshman Alaina Barascout 6-3, 7-6 (7-4 tiebreaker) in the NHIAA Girls Singles Finals at the Southern New Hampshire University courts.

Before that, Perrin eliminated Hanover’s Sarah Maestripieri, while Barascout ousted Derryfield’s Annie Lin in the semifinal.

Perrin, a three-time Telegraph Player of the Year, did what she had to do to become a state champion.

“She played a solid match against a quality opponent,” Sabers coach Bo Dean said. “She suffered from leg cramps at the end, but hung in there.”

Perrin has had a stellar career, and she will go for another title with No. 1 seeded doubles partner Ori Dart at SNHU on Thursday.

What has she done so well these last few years?

“It’s her ability to move on to the next point,” Dean said. “She does not dwell on mistakes.”

TODAY’S GAMES

The girls lacrosse season ending now leaves the area with just two high school teams left playing in semifinals today, the Bishop Guertin boys lacrosse team and the Souhegan baseball team, a pair of defending champs.

In lacrosse, the No. 3 defending champion Cardinals (14-5) will take on No. 2 Pinkerton (16-3) at 5 p.m. at Manchester Memorial High School. The Cardinals want to avenge a 9-8 loss the Astros back on May 11.

Then at 7 p.m. at Concord’s Warren Doane Stadium at Memorial Field, the defending champion No. 8 Sabers (13-6) will be at a place they’re comfortable at, playing in their third straight Division II semifinal.They’ll take on St.Thomas of Dover, who beat them 6-0 back on April 29 in Dover.

But that means little,as Souhegan downed top seed Hollis Brookline on Saturday in the quarterfinals after losing to the Cavs twice in the regular season.
