HS Roundup: Merrimack edges South; North back on track

Wednesday was Mixed Results Day in the area with regard to local high school games.

the Nashua North and Merrimack baseball teams are happy with big wins, while Nashua South is 0-2 in its stretch of four games in four days. Hollis Brookline suffered its first loss of the season, while Milford won its second straight.

Here are all the results in various sports:

BASEBALL

MERRIMACK 3, NASHUA SOUTH 2

With the game tied at two the Tomahawks (4-8) Brady Delibac singled, scoring one run for the walk-off win. Ryan Mainey struck out 11 for Merrimack. Merrimack hosts Winnacunnet and South (7-4) visits Spaulding on Thursday.

NASHUA NORTH 7, MANCHESTER CENTRAL-WEST 3

The Titans (7-6) break their four-game losing skid by getting a road win on Wednesday afternoon. Elias Bourque pitched seven innings, giving up eight hits, three earned runs and striking out seven.

Derek Finlay (triple, run, two RBIs), Ryan Bourgeois (double, run, two RBIs) and Brady Mason (multiple hits, RBI) led the offense. North visits Pinkerton on Thursday.

MERRIMACK VALLEY 6, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 2

The Cavaliers (9-1) committed four errors in the first innings and couldn’t recover losing their first game of the season. Charles Hale took the loss allowing six runs and four hits, while striking out eight.

HB visits Pelham on Friday.

MILFORD 8, LACONIA 0

The Spartans (2-8) win their second straight game by shutout. Jake Lammi earned the victory allowing three hits, no runs and striking out 10 over six innings. Michael Lima and Landon Pierce each had two hits. The Spartans showed their speed by stealing nine bases.

Milford visits Lebanon on Thursday.

WILTON-LYNDEBOROUGH 6, PORTSMOUTH CHRISTIAN 0

Troy Brennan tossed seven innings of two-hit ball, striking out 11 as the Warriors improved to 6-5.

Troy and brother Sean both hit homers for WLC, which is at Pittsfield on Friday.

SOFTBALL

MERRIMACK 21, NASHUA SOUTH 1

The Tomahawks (8-3) routed the Panthers (2-9) collecting 14 hits in five innings. Kaeley Smith hit a grand slam and Grace Lawton had three hits with a two run home run.

Avery Hui pitched three innings allowing no hits and striking out five. Lily Dionne pitched two innings to grab the save.

Merrimack visits Winnacunnet Thursday and South visits Bishop Guertin on Friday.

MANCHESTER CENTRAL 20, NASHUA NORTH 4

The Titans (0-11) remain winless after a tough loss to Central, but the Titans still hit the ball as Mack Brady had double and two RBIs, and Aaralyn Lopez and Taylor Joyal each had a single with an RBI.

North hosts Pinkerton on Thursday.

PINKERTON 14, BISHOP GUERTIN 9

The Cardinals (7-6) couldn’t overcome an early drought from the Astros. Meghan Davey pitched a complete game. Maddy Bowen (two hits) and Torey Hart (three RBIs) led the offense.

BG hosts Nashua South on Friday.

MERRIMACK VALLEY 13, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 5

The Cavaliers (7-3) lost a tough game at home against Merrimack Valley. Kailey Disco had a three run RBI double in the second inning. Emily Tebbetts had a RBI double and an RBI sac fly.

Austyn Kump had a double and a single. Ally Johnson had two singles. Emily Sartell had two singles. Kump had five strikeouts in four innings and Disco pitched three innings with two strikeouts.

HB visits Pelham on Friday.

BOYS LACROSSE

DERRYFIELD 13, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 9

The Cavaliers drop to a season record of 3-8 after their loss to Derryfield. Tommy Anderson (three goals), Jake Roy (two goals, two assists), Colin Corban (goal), Ethan Bender (goal), J.P. Torgersen (goal), Ben Dufoe (goal) and Justin Colby (18 face-off wins) played well for the locals.

HB hosts Bow on Friday.

GIRLS LACROSSE

CAMPBELL 17, MILFORD 6

The Cougars improve to 6-3 after their decisive win over the Spartans (1-7). Elayna Montenero was hard at work tallying eight goals and four assists. Bailey Bourque and Kristina Castellano had three goals and four assists apiece. Castellano also had 76 percent draw control in the win.

Campbell hosts Plymouth on Friday and Milford visits Trinity on Thursday.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

TIMBERLANE 3, BISHOP GUERTIN 1

The Cardinals (2-8) lost to the Owls by the scores of 12-25, 22-25, 25-23, 14-25. Trent Rider (eight kills, 12 digs, ace), Sam Dufoe (two kills, 13 assists, eight digs), Alex Howe (four kills) and Will Howell (three kills) played well in the loss.

BG visits Hollis Brookline on Thursday.

WINDHAM 3, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 0

The Cavaliers (7-2) get swept 25-15, 25-20, 25-19 and their four game winning streak is snapped in the process. Aidan Norris (six kills), John Sommer (five kills), Ethan Norris (16 assists, two aces, eight digs) and Bradley Noble (eight digs, two blocks) played well in the loss.

HB hosts Bishop Guertin on Thursday.

BOYS TENNIS

NASHUA SOUTH 8, MERRIMACK 1

The Panthers continued their hot streak, as their eighth straight win puts them at 8-2. They took five of six singles, with winners being Santiago Somorrostro (8-0), Akhil Kammila (8-0), Kaushik Tadipathri (8-1), Mihir Bhalla (8-0) and Aidan Sullivan (9-8, 7-1 tiebreaker).

South swept doubles, as Somorrostro/Bhalla (8-2), Tadapathri/Kammila (8-0) and Sullivan/Lekhith Ponnaluru (8-3) all won.

Merrimack (2-8) got its lone win from Max Tounse (8-0) at No. 6 singles.

South hosts Concord on Friday while the Tomahawks host Winnacunnet today.

BISHOP GUERTIN 9, PINKERTON 0

The Cardinals won their fifth straight to move to 9-2. Singles winners all the way down the ladder were Dean Liakos (8-2), Gavin Bombara (8-2), Ryan Wallat (8-1), Aditya Prasad (8-6), Sean Cairns (8-2) and Will Moynihan (8-0).

Liakos/Bombara (8-4), Wallat Prasad (8-6) and Cairns/Moynihan (8-3) all won. BG next is at Keene on Friday.

EXETER 5, ALVIRNE 4

The Broncos dropped two of three doubles after the teams split singles to fall to 3-8, suffering their fourth straight loss.

Peyton and Ashton Meuse both won their singles matches (8-2, 8-0) and doubles (8-0), and Alvirne also got a hard-fought win from Caleb Lambert at No. 4 singles (9-7).

Alvirne is at Bedford on Monday in a rematch of last year’s Division I finals.

WINDHAM 5, SOUHEGAN 4

The Sabers (5-5) tough stretch continues as they dropped four of six singles to put them on the edge, needing to sweep doubles to avoid a fifth straight defeat. No. 1 James Zeolie (8-5) and Andrew Rosse (8-1) at No. 6 won.

The Sabers were only able to win two doubles matches, Josh Goddard/Matthew Yates 8-6 at No. 2 and Connor Firmin/Andrew Rosse 8-4 at No. 3.

Souhegan hopes to get back on the winning track Friday at Hollis Brookline, at Longfellow Tennis in Nashua.

GIRLS TENNIS

NASHUA SOUTH 6, MERRIMACK 3

The Panthers won four straight singles, starting with No.3 Krisha Dani (8-4), Jenna Lecklider (8-0), Samitha Nadella (8-0) and Diya Bahtnagar (8-4).

Dahni/Lecklider (8-4) and Nadella/Bahtnagar (8-0) picked up the match clinchers.

Shu Grosso continued her fine season for Merrimack, winning 8-0 at No. 1 singles and teaming with Emily Winefield at No. 1 doubles 8-2. Also, the ‘Hawks got a win from Katie Costa at No. 2 singles, 8-2.

Merrimack (4-8) is at Winnacunnet today.

MANCHESTER CENTRAL 8, NASHUA NORTH 1

The Titans fell to 6-5, managing just a win by Sanya Rane at No. 4 singles, 9-7.

North hosts Pinkerton today.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 8, PEMBROKE 1

The Cavaliers vaulted over the .500 mar (6-5) as they took five of six singles and swept doubles.

Winners in singles included Keira Swart (8-0), Abby Coolidge (8-4), Katie Bauer (8-6), Mikayla Coolidge (8-6), and Annalise Walle (8-4).

Swart/Bauer (8-1), the Coolidges (8-2) and Emily Frederickson/Walle (8-4) all won in doubles. HB hosts Alvirne today.

PROSPECT MOUNTAIN 9, WILTON-LYNDEBOROUGH 0

It was a tough day for the Warriors (3-8), as their best matches were in doubles with Elisabeth Jacob/Jodi Gibson and Madaleine Straw/Senja Sours falling 8-5 and 8-4, respectively.

The Warriors wind up the season Friday at home vs. Trinity.
