HS Roundup: Alvirne baseball, South softball get first wins

Monday was back to school and some local teams were glad it was, as the Alvirne baseball, Nashua South softball, and Milford boys lacrosse teams picked up their first wins of the season.

Meanwhile, the Nashua South baseball team continued its winning ways in what was a very busy start to the week. Many tennis matches were postponed due to a rain threat but a few were played.

Here’s the Monday message:

BASEBALL

NASHUA SOUTH 9,DOVER 0

For the second straight game the Panthers (6-2) were able to shutout their opponent. River Hart hit a homerun with two RBIs and Isaiah Hedquist had two hits and three RBIs.

Grant McCubrey pitched four innings with eight strikeouts and Nolan Mederos pitched three innings with four strikeouts. South visits Spaulding on Wednesday.

ALVIRNE 9, MANCHESTER MEMORIAL 3

Ty Baker pitched six innings giving up one earned run and striking out five to get the Broncos (1-9) first win. Jake Dufour (two hits, run, two RBIs), Ethan Moccia (hit, two runs, RBI), DJ Thibeault (two hits, RBI), Alex Blais (hit, two runs, two RBIs) and Austin Ouellette (hit, run) all had a hot bat for the locals. Braden Simard also came in to close the door in the seventh. Alvirne hosts Windham on Wednesday.

TIMBERLANE 5, MERRIMACK 4

The ‘Hawks suffered a close but tough loss on the road, falling to 3-6. Merrimack is at Bedford on Wednesday.

BOW 4, MILFORD 0

The Spartans (0-6) continue to look for their first win after getting shutout by the Falcons. Damian Philbrick gave up two earned runs and one walk in six innings pitched. Colin Williams, Jake Lammi and Michael Lima all had hits. Milford hosts John Stark on Wednesday.

MASCENIC 5, CAMPBELL 2

The Cougars (5-1) lose for the first time this season when they visited Mascenic. Campbell tied the game at two apiece in the fourth inning. Mascenic took the lead 3-2 in the fifth, and then scored two more in the sixth for the win. Ryan Latsha went the distance. Campbell hosts Gilford on Wednesday.

SOFTBALL

NASHUA SOUTH 9,DOVER 6

The Panthers (1-5) secured their first win by defeating Dover on the road. Jillian Daley pitched seven innings, allowing six runs on eight hits and striking out 10. Elizabeth DeRusha led South with three hits; while Daley, Kylee Clough and Hailey Bettencourt each racked up multiple hits.

South hosts Manchester Central-Memorial on Tuesday.

CONCORD 16, NASHUA NORTH 0

The Titans were shut out and that moved their record down to 0-8. North visits Winnacunnet on May 9.

LONDONDERRY 7, BISHOP GUERTIN 1

The Cardinals (5-5) drop their three straight game on Monday to the Lancers. Torey Hart had the only hit for BG in the contest. The Cardinals put together a rally in the top of the seventh, but ended the game with bases loaded. Meghan Davey gave up two earned runs off of ten hits, walking four, and striking out three. BG hosts Merrimack on Friday.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 3, CONVAL 1

The Cavaliers (5-1) played great defensively holding ConVal to one run. Kailey Disco had two singles on the day. Savannah Duquette and Emily Sartell each had a single. Emily Tebbetts had a stand up double, while Ally Johnson had an RBI double.

Austyn Kump had a great day on the mound allowing only three hits with eight strikeouts bringing her two season total to 223. Kump also had two RBIs. HB visits Hanover on Wednesday.

TIMBERLANE 8, MERRIMACK 4

The Tomahawks (6-2) win streak ended at five when the Owls (7-2) came to town. Hannah Stone and Ashlyn Cassetty had two hits each. Avery Hui took the loss pitching six and two-thirds innings.

Merrimack hosts Bedford on Wednesday.

JOHN STARK 12, SOUHEGAN 0

The Sabers (1-6) lose their fifth consecutive contest on Monday afternoon. Souhegan hosts Oyster River on Friday.

BOYS LACROSSE

PINKERTON 18, NASHUA NORTH 1

The Titans (0-9) had trouble keeping up with the Astros and remain winless. Jack Peters scored the lone goal, Austin Kaminaris had four groundballs and Devyn Lavoie made seven saves. North visits Keene on Tuesday.

MILFORD 12, STEVENS 0

Logan Barnhill scored a hat trick and added an assist to lead the Spartans (1-4) to their first win of the season. Chuck Urda and Harris Jones chipped in with two goals apiece. Hugh Palmer (goal, assist), Cade Bouchard (goal, assist), Jack Seale (two assists), Andrew Herner (goal), Alex Johnson (goal), Ryan Arseneau (goal), Kaleb Francouer (assist) and Braydon Atwood (assist) rounded out the scoring.

James Brew made four saves in the shutout as the stout defensive play was led by Luica DeRosa, Justin Desmerais, Dartagnan Boudreau and Tyler Descoteaux. Milford hosts Inter-Lakes on Wednesday.

GIRLS LACROSSE

BISHOP GUERTIN 18, EXETER 7

The Cardinals (7-0-1) could not be touched once again as they take a big win against the Blue Hawks. Rylee Bouvier led the scoring with five goals and two assists. Steph Reap had a hat trick and three assists. Katie Campel (assist) and Arianna Kouchalakas each had a pair of goals.

Finishing the scoring output was Lauren Redfern (goal, two assists), Nat Coutu (goal, assist), Abbey Cannon (goal), Kam Schmidt (goal), Kyra O’Connell (goal) and Anna Campel (goal). Makenna Reekie and Maddy Eder Linell made three and two saves respectively.

BG hosts Concord on Wednesday.

NASHUA SOUTH 13, MERRIMACK 4

After getting their first loss the Panthers (8-1) got back on track by beating the Tomahawks. Maddy Matelewski scored four goals with Ella Benzekri had three goals, two assist and three draw controls.

Kaitlyn West (two goals, assist), Kylie Dawe (two goals), Maren Lowell (goal, assist) and Bella Walsh (goal) made great contributions on offense.

South plays Nashua North on Thursday.

PINKERTON 19, NASHUA NORTH 3

The Titans (2-8) were ousted by the Astros resulting to their sixth straight loss. Reagan Balanger, Keira Sice and Summer St. Pierre (two draw controls) scored one goal apiece.

Molly Ducharme and Anne McIntosh had six and five draw controls respectively. North hosts Nashua South on Thursday.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 18, PEMBROKE 7

The Cavaliers move to 6-2 after a dominate win on Monday. Alyssa Hill led the offense with four goals and three assists. Ireland Stark (two assists), Abbie Ogren (assist) and Sabrina Hill each had a hat trick.

Bella Haytayan netted two goals; while Paige Mello (goal, two assists), Madison Caetano (goal), Samantha Smith (goal), McKenna Maguire (goal), Juliett Ogren and Teagan Arbogast (assist) put their names on score sheet. Hallie Bardani made seven saves in net.

HB hosts Hanover on Wednesday.

SOUHEGAN 18, SALEM 2

The Sabers (5-3) dominate on the road to defeat the Blue Devils. Elle Stevenson played great all over the field collecting seven goals, three draw controls and two groundballs. Lyla Kimball tallied a hat trick and picked up five groundballs.

Mackenzie Cretsinger (two goals, four draw controls, three groundballs), Riley Devine (goal, assist), Emma Kennedy (two goals, assist), Maddie Lim (two goals, draw control, groundball) and Lyla Hawkes (goal, assist) made contributions in the win. Shannon Hargreaves made six saves in net.

Souhegan hosts Pinkerton on Thursday.

TIMBERLANE 14, ALVIRNE 0

The Broncos (0-5) remain winless with a shutout loss to the Owls. Alexa Kruger had 16 saves in goal and Jordan Sweeney caused five turnovers.

Alvirne visits Kingswood on Wednesday.

CAMPBELL 21, BISHOP BRADY 3

The Cougars improved to 4-2 thanks to a whopping seven goals by Elayna Montenero, to go with two assists. Bailey Bourque wasn’t far behind with six goals and 7 assists.

Kristina Castellona added three goals and 10 draw controls for the Cougars, who host St. Thomas on Wednesday.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

BISHOP GUERTIN 3, FARMINGTON 0

The Cardinals (2-4) win by the scores of 25-15, 25-16, 25-19. Trent Rider (11 digs, seven kills, four aces), Sam Kouchalakos (11 kills, nine digs) and Sam Dufoe (19 assists, five aces) played great for the locals.

BG hosts Winnacunnet on Wednesday.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 3, GOFFSTOWN 0

The Cavaliers improved to 5-1 afer a 25-14, 25-12, 25-16 sweep.

Aidan Norris (eight kills, seven aces, one block), Jake Laborde (eight kills, one ace, two blocks), Dan Sattler (five aces, seven digs) and Luke Laborde (three blocks) all led the way.

HB hosts Salem on Wednesday.

BOYS TENNIS

MANCHESTER MEMORIAL 5, ALVIRNE 4

The Broncos got singles wins from Peyton and Ashton Meuse (8-1 and 8-0), one from Caleb Lambert at No. 4 (9-7), plus an 8-0 doubles win from the Meuses. However, they couldn’t find that elusive fifth win and fell to 3-5.

They host Hanover on Wednesday.

GIRLS TENNIS

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 7, KENNETT 2

The Cavs set the tone with four of six wins in singles, and then swept doubles to improve to 3-4.

Singles winners included No. 1 Keira Swart (8-2), No. 4 Katie Bauer (9-7), No. 5 Emily Frederickson (8-4) and No. 6 Mikayla Coolidge (8-1).

The teams of Swart/Anuhya Chilakapati (8-2), Abby and Mikayla Coolidge (8-6) and Peyton/Sophia Warren (8-5) all came out on top.

HB hosts Goffstown on Wednesday.

CONANT 4, WILTON-LYNDEBOROUGH 3

In a rain-shortened match, the Warriors (2-6) got a singles win from Elisabeth Jacob (8-3), and she teamed with Erin McDonald for an 8-6 doubles win. Also, the Warriors team of Madeline Straw/Senja Sours won 4-1.

Straw lost a tough No. 3 singles match, 9-8 (7-1 tiebreaker) to Conant’s Lilly Rennie.

WLC hosts Stevens today.

OTHER MATCHES POSTPONED

Drizzle or rain postponed most of the rest of Monday’s tennis. South and Dover will play today, no date yet for North and Concord.

Bishop Guertin’s boys and girls tennis vs. Londonderry was also moved to today.

Souhegan-Portsmouth boys was moved to May 20. Alvirne-Souhegan girls was also not played with no makeup info available. Merrimack-Manchester Central boys and girls matches were moved to Thursday.
