Let’s get this full celebration of spring started in full swing.

That’s what will happen today when, after tennis and some track and field began last week, the rest of the local high school spring sports catch up with their season openers.

The headliner may be the Nashua South baseball team taking the field at Holman Stadium for the first time since last Memorial Day’s tourney ouster by Keene. The Panthers, who are a year older and likely much improved, will take on Goffstown at 4:30 on what is expected to be a sunsplashed afternoon.

Wilton-Lyndeborough is the only other baseball team slated to play at home, hosting Derryfield. New Souhegan coach Chris Metz makes his Saber debut at Londonderry in an inter-divisional contest. Metz coached Campbell last year.

In softball, Alvirne is the only local team playing at home, hosting Pinkerton at 4:45 p.m. Defending Division III champion Campbell, which went unbeaten last spring, begins its title defense at Bishop Brady in Concord.

Speaking of unbeaten teams, the Bishop Guertin girls lacrosse team, which went unbeaten en route to its third straight Division I state title, hosts Londonderry at 4 p.m. today at Stellos Stadium.

In an all-local girls matchup, Souhegan will host Merrimack. And in boys lacrosse, Merrimack will return the favor, hosting the Sabers and new coach Nick Lampros.

The defending Division I champion Cardinal boys lacrosse team will open up on the road at Londonderry. Nashua South will be at Keene.

Even boys volleyball gets in the act as Bishop Guertin hosts local rival Hollis Brookline at 5:45 p.m. at the Colligadome.

Other highlights of the week include the Nashua North baseball team hosting Portsmouth at Holman on Tuesday to open the Titans season, while also on Tuesday the Hollis Brookline girls and boys lacrosse teams have a doubleheader at HB. The Cavs host Goffstown, beginning with the girls game at 4 p.m. That will mark the debut of new girls coach Linda Haytayan. HB lost to Portsmouth in last year’s Division II girls title game.
