HS Roundup: Panthers clinch top seed; Titans volleyball wins sixth straight

The Nashua High School South boys soccer team, by virtue of their win Monday night over Keene on Senior Night at Stellos Stadium, should open the Division I tournament next week as the No. 1 seed.

It was a busy night for girls volleyball, as Hollis Brookline, Nashua North, Merrimack, Campbell and Bishop Guertin all posted wins.

Remember when the Titans were 2-8? Well, read below to find out just how far they’ve come since then:

BOYS SOCCER

NASHUA SOUTH 5,

KEENE 0

Rory Olsen had a pair of goals as the Panthers stayed unbeaten (14-0-1). Joona Hantula, Jadiel Bomfim and Daniel Miranda each had a goal, while Nick Esp and Fernando Figueroa played well defensively in front of goalkeeper Leo Kopicko.

South winds up the regular season at Merrimack on Thursday.

WILTON-LYNDEBOROUGH 1,

SUNAPEE 0

Troy Brennan’s penalty kick boosted the Warriors, which got a good defensive effort, to 9-3-1. WLC wraps up the regular season Thursday at Hinsdale.

It’s been a tough season for the Warriors, with last year’s Telegraph Player of the Year, Elisabeth Jacob, having transferred to High Mowing.

Now 4-10, WLC hosts Newport on Wednesday.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

NASHUA NORTH 3,

EXETER 0

It’s been a long climb, but the Titans made it to the .500 mark (8-8), winning their sixth in a row by a 25-15, 25-13, 25-23 sweep.

Alyssa Stanton had seven kills, eight digs and two aces, while Kelsey Laliberte added six kills, two blocks, two aces and Olivia Mazerolle seven kills, four digs,and one ace.

Mia Regnery (three aces, 19 digs) and Sasha Riabova (18 assists) also helped out. North hosts Hollis Brookline on Wednesday.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 3,

MANCHESTER MEMORIAL 0

The Cavaliers won their 11th straight with a 25-7, 25-11, 25-11 sweep of the winless Crusaders, paced by Annette Schlunk’s eight kills and seven kills by Abbie Hoffpauir.

Sophia Jordan added 31 assists and three aces while Maia Schneider had nine aces. Now 15-1, HB visits Nashua North on Wednesday.

BISHOP GUERTIN 3,

SALEM 2

The Cardinals squeaked by the Blue Devils 15-13 in the deciding set to improve to 11-5. Karisa Comolli led the way with 14 kills, seven aces, two blocks and five digs.

BG hosts Dover on Wednesday.

LONDONDERRY 3,

NASHUA SOUTH 0

The Panthers dropped to 7-9 after set scores of 26-24, 25-20, 25-15. Katie Garland (five kills, eight assists, two aces) and Kellie Ryan (seven kills, two aces) led South, which hosts Windham on Wednesday.

MERRIMACK 3,

TIMBERLANE 1

The Tomahawks improved to 4-13 with tight 26-24 and 28-26 wins in the final two sets after splitting the first two, 25-23, 17-25.

Lily Petrocelli had nine kills and eight digs, while Lilly Marshall added 10 kills. Others who contributed were Emily Winefield (10 digs), Kayle Bormuth (three kills, four blocks) and Sam Lyna (three digs, 25 assists).

Merrimack wraps up the season Wednesday at home vs. Winnacunnet.

CAMPBELL3,

SOUHEGAN 0

The Cougars were led by Bria Soule’s five aces, plus two aces and eight kills by Catherine Carignan. Morgan Bruner added three kills, four digs and 11 assists, and Elayna Montenero had eight digs.

Tianna Boyson also played well for Campbell, now 11-4. The Cougars wrap up the regular season Friday at Hanover while Souhegan, now 3-12, will host Manchester West on Wednesday.
