Is it Week Five already? The local high school football season is flying by, but the memory of last Friday night’s Nashua North-South classic is still alive.

The Panthers are involved in this weekend’s key matchup, another city rival matchup, this one vs. Bishop Guertin on Friday night.

Here’s your weekly capsule look at the Week 5 local games:

DIVISION I

BISHOP GUERTIN (3-1) AT NASHUA SOUTH (1-3)

WHEN: Friday, 6:30 p.m.

WHERE: Nashua’s Stellos Stadium

LAST WEEK: Nashua South 43, Nashua North 42; Bishop Guertin 48, Merrimack 35.

LAST YEAR: Did not play.

FYI: This is a great matchup of two teams with beefy lines up front who run the ball steadily, not just with their running backs (Josh Comoph, Connor Rowsell of South, Charlie Bellavance of BG) but also their QBs (Mike Rutstein, South and Matt Santosuosso, BG). Who can play the better defense will win.

MERRIMACK (1-3) AT PINKERTON (3-1)

WHEN: Friday, 7 p.m.

WHERE: Pinkerton’s Alumni Field (Derry).

LAST WEEK: Bishop Guertin 48, Merrimack 35; Londonderry 21, Pinkerton 10.

LAST YEAR: Did not play.

FYI: The Astros will be looking to bounce back from a loss to arch rival Londonderry, not an optimum time to see them. Their top back Jacob Albert has been banged up, but Cole Yennaco ran for over 100 vs. the Lancers. Defensively, linebacker Anthony Terrenzino is tough to avoid, so Tomahawks QB Kyle Crampton, wideout Shea Goodwin and back Reimello Hyde have their work cut out. But Merrimack can put up points, too.

NASHUA NORTH (3-1) at KEENE (2-2)

WHEN: Saturday, 2 p.m.

WHERE: KHS Alumni Field.

LAST WEEK: Keene 21, Windham 14; Nashua South 43, Nashua North 42.

LAST YEAR: Did not play.

FYI: The Titans have to go on the road to what is always a tough place to play to try to shake off last week’s tough loss to arch rival Nashua South on the final plays. Keene is proving to be a tough team, giving Pinkerton and BG hard times. The ‘Birds can run the ball with backs Jarrod Rokes and Seamus Howard, while Marcus Rokes in the secondary and Emery Ray can be tough defensively. North QB Derek Finlay continues his fine play running and throwing, but the Titans will need to be wary defensively of what is probably the best Keene team in recent years.

ALVIRNE (0-3) at LONDONDERRY (4-0)

WHEN: Saturday, 1:30 p.m.

WHERE: LHS Sawyer Field.

LAST WEEK: Londonderry 21, Pinkerton 10; Alvirne did not play.

LAST YEAR: Did not play.

FYI: This is just one of those mismatches that really not only question Alvirne having to be in Division I, but having to be in that tough South Conference as well. The Broncos are back to work after having to cancel last week’s game vs. Salem due to COVID protocols. The Lancers are deep: For example, they beat the Astros without starting QB Aidan Washington as backup Drew Heenan filled in admirably. The Broncos will try to forge an attack behind QB Jacob Bradshaw.

DIVISION II

BOW (1-2) at MILFORD (3-1)

WHEN: Friday, 7 p.m.

WHERE: Milford High School.

LAST WEEK: Milford 38, Hollis Brookline 14; Bow 29, Souhegan 26.

LAST YEAR: Did not play.

FYI: The Falcons picked up a tough road win last week in Amherst and have talent, including back Ryan Lover and QB Alex Boisvert. The Spartans are seemingly without back Caden Zalenski for a while (foot injury), but back Logan Barnhill has picked up the slack. The Spartans will try to slow down’s Bow’s attack, a little easier to do on their grass field.

SOUHEGAN (2-2) at LEBANON (4-0)

WHEN: Friday, 7 p.m.

WHERE: Lebanon HS.

LAST WEEK: Bow 29,Souhegan 26; Lebanon 48, Gilford-Belmont 13.

LAST YEAR: Did not play.

FYI: The Sabers’ young squad will face a tough road test, for certain, but they’ll hope skill layers like J.J. Bright and Tony Garrant will help out freshman QB Romy Jain in a tough road environment. Lebanon is paced by backs Cole Shambo and Jackson Stone, and this is probably their second biggest test of the season; beating Milford was the first.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE (1-3) at MANCHESTER WEST (2-2)

WHEN: Friday, 7 p.m.

WHERE: West High School

LAST WEEK: Milford 38, Hollis Brookline 14; Manchester West 40, Hillsboro-Deering/Hopkinton 24.

LAST YEAR: Did not play.

FYI: The Blue Knights began the season playing the iron of Hanover and Lebanon, and a bit easier competition has allowed them to right the ship. HB is looking to snap a three-game skid, and certainly QB Riley McQuilkin and J.C. Cora are a dangerous scoring combo. But the young Cavs have given up 165 points in their last three games and can’t get into a track meet on the turf.

DIVISION III

CAMPBELL (3-1) at WINNISQUAM (0-4)

WHEN: Saturday, 7 p.m.

WHERE: Winnisquam HS

LAST WEEK: Trinity 14, Campbell 0; Laconia 34, Winnisquam 0.

LAST YEAR: Did not play.

FYI: The Cougars will try to get their offense untracked after being shut down by Trintiy, and that will be up to QB Jackson Kanaley, back Nate Perry, etc. the opponent may help with that, outscored 141-16 in four games – possibly regretting having to move up to Division III after titles in Division IV in 2018-19.
