HS Roundup: Broncos edged by Jags; Cavs top ConVal

The Alvirne High School football team has played fairly well in two home games to start the season, but don’t have a win to show for it.

The Broncos lost a tough one-point decision at the hands of the Windham Jaguars on Friday night, just one of many local contests on a busy Friday.

Let’s take a look:

FOOTBALL

WINDHAM 7,

ALVIRNE 6

The Jaguars grabbed the lead with 1:50 to go in the third quarter, evening their record at 1-1.

The game was scoreless after the first quarter. The Broncos fell to 0-2, but won’t have to go far as they have their third of four straight home games to start the season next Friday when they host Keene, which fell 38-19 to Pinkerton last night.

BOYS SOCCER

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 1,

CONVAL 0

Hunter Crea scored the lone goal 35 minutes into the game to secure a Cavs (5-0) win. Riley Callahan assisted on the goal. John Kotelly Aidan Dufoe, Nate McEvoy and Alex James had a great game on defense. HB visits Pembroke on Tuesday.

GILFORD 2,

CAMPBELL 0

The Cougars received their first loss of the season in a shutout at home. Campbell hosts Hopkinton on Thursday.

GIRLS SOCCER

MERRIMACK 7,

SPAULDING 1

The Tomahawks (3-2) get above .500 with a dominant home win. Lucy Cote (two assists), Brooke Basoli, Cara Sullivan, McKenzie Boutin, Alex Therrien, Isabella Saxon (one assist) and Jill Dorf all found the back of the net. Molly Perkins had five saves between the pipes.

Merrimack visits Londonderry on Tuesday.

MILFORD 1,

LEBANON 0 (OT)

Alina St. George netted the game winning goal for the Spartans (2-1-2) in overtime. Ava Hutcheons and Keely Giordono also played well in the contest. Milford hosts ConVal on Tuesday.

FIELD HOCKEY

SOUHEGAN 1,

KINGSWOOD 0

Ella Barrett scored the lone goal of the match to improve the Sabers record to 3-1. Miya Chorney had an assist and Annie Raduazzo had three saves in net. Souhegan hosts ConVal on Tuesday.

HANOVER 2,

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 0

The Cavaliers fell to 2-2 after a hard fought contest Friday. HB travels to Pelham on Tuesday.

LEBANON 9,

MILFORD 0

Another tough contest for the host Spartans (0-4), although goalies Heather Whittier (10 saves), Chloe Marchand (three saves) and Cameron Hopkins (seven saves) played well in net despite the score.

Milford hosts Oyster River on Monday.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 3,

NASHUA SOUTH 1

The Cavaliers (3-0) beat the Panthers (0-2) by the scores of 25-17, 25-14, 20-25, 25-21. Cheyenne Colbert had 18 kills, Maia Schneider added 10 digs, Lydia Daskalos had nine aces and Lily Roberge had four blocks for HB. South’s Nina Mahalingam (14 digs, two aces) and Katie Garland (six kills, six digs, four blocks) played well in the loss. HB hosts Londonderry on Wednesday and South hosts Keene on Monday.

CAMPBELL 3,

JOHN STARK 0

The Cougars move to 3-0 defeating John Stark 25-13, 25-9, 25-14. Kristina Castellano (seven digs, five kills, two aces), Madison Bruner (six kills, three aces, one dig) and Morgan Bruner (21 assists, three aces, two digs) played phenomenal in the sweep. Campbell visits Souhegan on Tuesday.

The Tomahawks struggled at Hoodcroft Country Club, where the Astros shined on their home course. Connor Patch (45), Matthew Todd (51) and Matthew Licata (53) were the top scorers for the locals.
