American Legion State Championships: Nashua’s Coffey Post falls in title game to Portsmouth
NASHUA – Booma Post 6 of Portsmouth took the longest of routes to claim the New Hampshire American Legion state championship.
Portsmouth defeated Coffey Post of Nashua for the second straight day to claim the title, dethroning the defending champs with a 4-0 shutout win on Wednesday afternoon.
The visitors from the Seacoast worked their way out of the losers’ bracket, after falling to Nashua on Saturday. In all, Portsmouth played seven games in six days, winning the final five to reign above the other seven entrants here in the tournament.
Wednesday’s win was all about lefty Boden Driscoll, a Portsmouth High junior, who faced the minimum of 21 hitters in the win, allowing just one hit.
A one-out single in the seventh by Nashua’s Isaac Zhang was the lone blemish on Driscoll’s day. Zhang, the Post 3 center-fielder, was immediately erased on a double-play ball to end it.
Nashua finishing the weekend with a 3-2 mark after storming through the winners bracket with victories over Concord, Portsmouth and Laconia.
