HS Roundup: Spartans get revenge; Cards stay unbeaten

You’ve got to love the back-to-backs this spring. It’s awfully hard for a team to beat the other team twice in the same week, and the Milford High School baseball team proved it again on Thursday, avenging an earlier loss this week to Hollis Brookline.

The HB softball team also won, and Bishop Guertin boys lacrosse also remained unbeaten.

Here are your Thursday highlights:

BASEBALL

MILFORD 2,

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 0

The Spartans (8-2) return the favor after the Cavaliers (8-2) shut them out on Tuesday. Brandon Shaw got the win allowing three hits and striking out nine. Ben O’Connell and Jake Lammi led the Milford offense with two hits apiece.

Charlie Hale took the loss allowing six hits and two runs over six innings and struck out eight. Drew Gryniewcz, Paul Vachon, Hale and Jack Lager each managed one hit for the Cavs.

Milford hosts Souhegan and HB hosts Manchester West on Tuesday.

LONDONDERRY 7,

BISHOP GUERTIN 0

The Cardinals got shutout by a stout Lancers squad. BG got two strong innings on the mound from Sam Franco, allowing one hit while striking out two. BG visits Merrimack on Monday.

SOFTBALL

CAMPBELL 9,

SANBORN 5

Riley Gamache hit for a cycle to continue the Cougars (7-0) winning ways. Chloe Steineger and Alex Roberts each had three hits in the locals 13 hit game. Campbell visits ConVal on Tuesday.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 7,

MILFORD 1

After a close loss to the Spartans (6-4) on Wednesday, the Cavaliers (7-3) grabbed a big home win.

In the first inning, HB got their offense started when Savannah Duquette singled scoring one run. HB scored three runs in the second inning, then scored runs on an RBI stolen base by Katrina Lee.

Austyn Kump pitched allowing only three hits and one run over seven innings while striking out 15. Lauren Mauch had an inside the park home run in the sixth inning. Abigail Guay, Lee, Lauren Mauch, and Duquette all had hits.

HB visits Manchester West on May 28 and Milford hosts Souhegan on Tuesday.

BOYS LACROSSE

BISHOP GUERTIN 21,

NASHUA NORTH 0

The Cardinals blanked the Titans (1-12) once again to remain undefeated (14-0). Declan Wilkie, Jon Krikorian (one assist), Chris Heitmiller (one assist), Calvin Jozokos and Ryan Jolicoeur netted two goals apiece.

Brady Dumont (one assist), Michael Kiely (one assist), Nick McGovern (three assists), JJ Murphy, Connor Bouvier (two assists), Tim Kiely (two assists), Aiden Laurendeau, Dawson Clark, Alex Dumont, Caleb Yeung and Jacob Caron (one assist) each had one goal.

North’s Devyn Lavoie made eight saves and Robert Cannaway picked up six groundballs.

BG hosts Salem on Monday and North visits Souhegan on Friday.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 16,

MILFORD 1

Joe O’Reilly tallied five goals and five assists in the Cavaliers dominant win over the Spartans.

Hunter Hudzik scored four goals, while dishing out three assists. Tommy Anderson (three goals), Jake Roy (three goals, one assist), Garrett Sturges (one goal, one assist), Ethan Bender (two assists), Justin Colby (three assists) and Jaiden Baringer (one assist) added to the offensive effort. Milford’s Corey Girouard scored the lone goal and Drew Hodges was solid in net with 16 saves. Milford hosts Pelham on Monday.

GIRLS LACROSSE

TIMBERLANE 11,

ALVIRNE 3

The Broncos (3-7) couldn’t handle the Owls with a shortened roster. Maddi Nicolosi netted two goals and Hailey Ramohlinho scored one. Zaira O’Leary made 10 saves in net.

Alvirne host Goffstown on Monday.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 18,

MILFORD 5

The Cavaliers defeated the Spartans on Senior Night on Thursday. Abbie Ogren (three goals, three assists), Alyssa Hill (four goals, one assist) and Abbey Maguszewski (two goals, two assists) led the offense. Brooke Allanach, Nicole Heiter and Morgan Broadhurst each added two goals.

Bella Haytayan, Cailean Roy and Hallie Bardani each added a goal; while Sammy Atlas and Mack Jusczak had an assist. Ellie Maxwell and Kaitlyn Castriotta both had a strong night on the draw circle.

HB visits Winnacunnet on Tuesday and Milford visits Pelham on Monday.

BOYS TENNIS

GOFFSTOWN 5,

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 4

The Cavaliers lost a close match with Goffstown on Thursday night. Bryson Griersch (8-0), Rory Klauber (8-0) and Hayden Smith (8-2) won in singles competition. Dan Kennedy and Klauber teamed up to win 8-2.

GIRLS TENNIS

MILFORD 7,

MANCHESTER WEST 2

The Spartans picked up a road win as singles winners were Grace Carpenter (8-0), Adrianna George (8-3), Emma Grovesteen (8-3) and Juliann DeGraffenried (8-1). Doubles winners were Carpenter/George (8-1), Grovesteen/Erin Jasper (8-1) and DeGraffenried/ Dzenanan Harambasic (8-10).

Milford starts its post season with a match against Manchester West on Wednesday in Milford.

PINKERTON 6,

NASHUA NORTH 3

The Titans end the regular season with four straight losses. Winning for North was Sanya Rane (8-3), Caitlyn Mamos (8-4) and Ashley O’Young (8-1).

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 3,

SOUHEGAN 0

The Cavaliers (8-2) sweep the Sabers (0-10) by the scores of 25-14, 25-13, 25-16. Aidan Norris (six kills, four aces), Jack Delaney (five kills, two aces), Max Marshall (19 assists) and Braedan O’Connor (four aces, one block) helped out HB in their win. HB hosts Goffstown on Tuesday.
