HS Roundup: Close wins for BG, HB and Merrimack softball

Clutch hits, solid pitching performances, and plenty of competition was the story of Wednesday’s high school schedule.

The Cardinals of Bishop Guertin enjoyed a big extra inning softball win over Londonderry, while Merrimack and Hollis Brookline had one-run wins, as did the Alvirne baseball team.

Let’s take a look, shall we?:

SOFTBALL

BISHOP GUERTIN 3,

LONDONDERRY 2

(Eight innings)

Torey Hart scored her second run of the game on a double by Maddie Bowen in the top of the eighth to lift the Cards to their extra-inning win.

BG went up early, with Petra Bajdek scoring in the top of the first. BG pushed another run across in the top of the sixth, when Bowen’s sacrifice fly scored Hart who had reached on a double and was pushed to third on a sacrifice fly by Stephanie Coulombe.

BG’s final run came in the top of the eighth inning, when Meghan Davey went the distance for the Cardinals giving up five hits, five walks and striking out 10.

PINKERTON 18,

NASHUA SOUTH 1

The Panthers (3-8) watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a loss to the Astros.

Natalie Ward was in the pitcher’s circle for South. The righthander went three innings, allowing 15 runs on 13 hits and striking out two.

Lizzie DeRusha threw one inning in relief. Morgan Gillis led the offense with one hit. Ward also recorded her 100th strikeout. South hosts Concord on Friday.

MERRIMACK 12,

ALVIRNE 11

The Tomahawks (9-2) tallied their fifth straight win, beating the Broncos (4-6) for the second time this week.

Grace Lawton knocked out a three run homerun, two doubles and scored three runs. Ally O’Brien had three runs scored with a two run triple and two singles. Morgan Goodspeed stole two bases and scored three runs, while Erin Knauer crossed the plate twice.

Alvirne’s Courtney Marioles (four runs), Delaney Power (four RBIs) and Sabrina Testa played well in the loss.

Merrimack visits Goffstown on Saturday and Alvirne hosts Londonderry on Monday.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 7,

SOUHEGAN 6

The Cavaliers (5-2) had a walk off win against the Sabers as Katrina Lee had a bunt to score Meg Park. HB totaled seven hits while Kailey Disco pitched four innings with six strikeouts. Disco also had a triple pushing across two RBIs. Ally Johnson pitched two innings with three strikeouts.

Johnson also recorded a base hit and one RBI. Lauren Mauch (double, RBI) and Savannah Duquette (single, RBI) created some offense. Austyn Kump closed the game in the circle while recording a base hit and one RBI.

CAMPBELL 16,

MANCHESTER WEST 1

The Cougars (6-0) stay undefeated with a dominant performance as Morgan Bruner (five strikeouts) and Catherine Carignian (seven strikeouts) split time on the mound.

Juliana Pinciaro hit a three run homer as part of the Cougars 18 hit attack. Campbell hosts Sanborn on Tuesday.

BASEBALL

ALVIRNE 4,

MERRIMACK 3

The host Broncos (8-2) moved the Tomahawks (1-10) losing streak to 10 as

Josh MacDonald had an efficient day with one hit, one run and one RBI. Jake Dufour (one hit, one run), Evan Beals (one run), Kyle Boulanger (one run, one RBI) and Jagger Forsyth (one hit) also did well at the plate.

Nick Jacques got the win going seven innings giving up six hits, three runs and striking out two.

Merrimack’s Evan Roy (RBI), Owen Medlock (RBI) and Dylan Brander played well while Ayden Curran took the loss on the mound.

Alvirne hosts Trinity on Friday and Merrimack hosts Goffstown on Saturday.

PINKERTON 11,

NASHUA SOUTH 4

The Panthers (2-9) struggled against the Astros and dropped their fifth straight despite the play of Adam Picard (two hits, RBI), Jeff Lugo (RBI) and Jake O’Connor (RBI).

Nick Shaw struck out two over six and one third innings. South visits Merrimack on Monday.

BOYS LACROSSE

CAMPBELL 16,

ALVIRNE 7

The Cougars (9-2) win streak stands at nine with a road win against the Broncos (1-7). Drew Adamkos (one assist) and Andrew Willnus (three assists) each scored six goals. Jack Noury added two goals and an assist in the win.

Campbell hosts Alvirne on Monday.

SALEM 7,

MERRIMACK 6

The Tomahawks (4-7) were edged out by the Blue Devils at home. Matthew Todd secured a hat trick, Shea Goodwin had two goals and Connor Lanigan added one goal. Declan Covell (two assists) and Steven Petz (one assist) added to the locals offense.

Merrimack hosts Portsmouth on Saturday.

GIRLS LACROSSE

CAMPBELL 14,

MILFORD 11

The Cougars (2-6) end their four game skid with a home win against the Spartans. Bailey Bourque led the scoring attack with four goals and two assists. Josie Oberto had three goals and two assists. Julia Theriault, Brooke Stoncius and Elayna Montenero each added two goals in the win. Goalie Pheobe Drouin had 10 saves.

Milford was led by Kylie Greska (four goals) and Bailey Johnson (three goals). Amelia Leo (one goal, two assists), Sierra Chaput (one goal, three assists), Grace O’Shaughnessy (one goal) and Ariana Brew (one goal) added to the score sheet while Saige Paradise made 13 saves in net.

Campbell hosts Alvirne on Thursday and Milford hosts ConVal on Monday.

PINKERTON 16,

NASHUA SOUTH 12

After a having a one goal halftime lead, the Panthers couldn’t hold off the Astros. South got within two with two minutes left, but Pinkerton scored two to finish the game.

Audrey Mullaney had three saves in net for South, while Olivia Johnson had six goals and one assist. Ella Benzekri had four goals and five draw controls with Soleil Dubois and Kaitlyn West adding a goal.

South plays Bishop Guertin on Friday.

BOYS TENNIS

NASHUA SOUTH 9,

PINKERTON 0

The Panthers (8-1) continued their winning ways with their sixth straight. Singles winner were Santiago Somorrostro (8-0), Atul Phadke (8-2), Akhil Kammila (8-0), Neil Kachappily (8-0), Praneet Nadella (8-0) and Shubh Dubey (8-2).

Doubles winners were Ben Lambright/Kaushik Tadipathri (8-3), Connor Foti/Joshua Gao (8-4) and Aiden Pmello/Dubey (8-4).

South hosts Nashua North on Friday.

ALVIRNE 9,

MERRIMACK 0

The Broncos stand at 10-2 after shutting out the Tomahawks. Peyton Meuse (8-0), Ashton Meuse (8-0), Tom Bondaruk (8-1), Charlie Thomas (8-0), Broady Burke (8-2) and Matt Fitzpatrick (8-0) won in singles. Meuse/Meuse (8-0), Bondaruk/Thomas (8-1) and Burke/Jack Ashworth (8-0) won in doubles.

SOUHEGAN 7,

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 2

The Sabers took care of business against the Cavaliers. Souhegan winners were James Zeolie (8-6), Michale Dodge (8-3), Connor Firmin (8-3) and Matthew Yates (8-2).

Doubles winners were Josh Goddard/Dodge (9-7), Zeolie/Ryan Fernandez (8-3) and Yates/Andrew Rosse (8-2). Will Pesiridis (8-1) and Rory Klerber (8-4) won for HB.

GIRLS TENNIS

NASHUA SOUTH 5,

PINKERTON 4

The Panthers (8-2) moved their winning streak to eight after Wednesday’s win against the Astros.

Priya Shokeen (8-6), Jenna Lecklider (8-2) and Krisha Dani (8-2) won their singles matches. Abby Finchum/Kat Tsao (8-4) and Dani/Lecklider (9-8) won in doubles.

South visits Nashua North on Friday.

ALVIRNE 7,

MERRIMACK 2

The Broncos (3-8) picked up single wins from Avery Baker (8-3), Gabby Cummins (8-2), Kenzi Legg (8-1), Marissa Murphy (8-1) and Ruby Dionne (8-0).

Doubles winners were Cummins/Legg (8-4) and Dionne/Rachel Stephen (8-5). Merrimack (3-8) picked up wins from Shu Grosso (8-0) and the team of Grosso/Sarah Hardy (8-0).

Alvirne visits Trinity on Thursday and Merrimack visits Nashua South on Monday.

STEVENS 7,

WILTON-LYNDEBOROUGH 2

Elisabeth Jacob won in singles competition 9-8 in a tiebreaker. In doubles action Madaleine Straw/Senja Sours won 8-4.

The Warriors visit Moultonborough on Friday.
