HS Roundup: Broncos on a roll; big win for South softball

It’s becoming a pretty good spring for the Alvirne High School baseball team.

The Broncos haven’t lost in 10 days and are now 7-2 on the season under first year head coach Adam Perkins after beating Merrmack Monday to headline a busy day in local high school sports.

Another big win on Monday came from the Nashua High School South softball team, which edged Pinkerton with a walkoff win.

Here are the details from what was a Manic Monday:

BASEBALL

ALVIRNE 9,

MERRIMACK 3

The Broncos (7-2) won their third straight game with a road win against the Tomahawks (1-9).

Alvirne started things off with scoring two runs in the second on an error. In the third inning they kept things going by scoring five runs. Evan Beals, Jagger Forsyth and Brady Simard all tallied RBIs.

Merrimack found the scoreboard in the sixth inning scoring three runs. Josh MacDonald pitched six innings, giving up three runs, five hits and striking out six. Ben Flanders, Ryan Somers and Daniel Morin added RBIs for the ‘Hawks. Dylan Callahan gave up nine runs, six hits and struck out one in two and two thirds innings.

Alvirne and Merrimack face off in Hudson on Wednesday.

LONDONDERRY 4,

NASHUA NORTH 0

The Titans (4-7) get shutout in their fourth consecutive loss. Alex Meesig started on the mound going six innings, giving up five hits, while striking out five.

Travis Holbrook, Ryan Bourgeois, Corey O’Day and Andy Barry collected a hit. North will face Londonderry on Thursday at Holman Stadium.

PINKERTON 12,

NASHUA SOUTH 4

The Panthers (2-8) went down for the fourth time in a row at the hands of the Astros. Nolan Mederos had a solid pitching performance and Chris Keefe had two stolen bases.

South welcomes Pinkerton on Wednesday at Holman Stadium.

SOFTBALL

NASHUA SOUTH 8,

PINKERTON 7

A walk-off error propelled the Panthers (3-7) to a decisive, dramatic victory over the Astros.

South trailed 7-6 in the bottom of the seventh inning when an error scored two runs for the locals. Lexi Roberge drove in four runs and added a triple and a single.

Lizzie DeRusha, Jillian Daley, Natalie Ward and Audra Robinson managed to get multiple hits at the plate.

Pitcher Natalie Ward surrendered seven runs on six hits over seven innings and struck out seven.

South and Pinkerton face off again in Derry on Wednesday.

MERRIMACK 9,

ALVIRNE 7

Morgan Goodspeed led the game with a homerun and later doubled in the Tomahawks win over the Broncos. Grace Lawton had two single and a double and Ally O’Brien added a single and a double for the Tomahawks.

Sabrina Testa and Alyssa Abbot each collected three hits for Alvirne, while Courtney Marioles tossed four innings of two-hit, scoreless relief.

Merrimack and Alvirne play again on Wednesday in Merrimack.

BEDFORD 5,

BISHOP GUERTIN 2

Momentum wasn’t present for the Cardinals (6-2) on offense as the struggled against the Bulldogs.

BG put their first run on the board in the first inning, capitalizing on a leadoff walk and a fielder’s choice to score Petra Bajdek. The Cardinals’ only other run came from a solo home run hit to deep center by Maddy Bowen.

Defensively, Bailey Doyle got the start in the circle for BG and was relieved by Meghan Davey in the bottom of the fifth.

LONDONDERRY 21,

NASHUA NORTH 0

The Titans (1-9) offensive struggles continue as Riley Brady recorded the lone hit and Mackenzie Tanner played great defensively.

North will visit Londonderry on Thursday.

CONANT 24,

WILTON-LYNDEBOROUGH 5

The Warriors (1-6) drop another tough one against Conant despite the fact Savanah Dubois had her first hit of the season and drove in two runs.

Emily Dubois had two singles and Abby Dowling had a double, triple and two RBIs, while Ryleigh Smith pitched a complete game.

WLC visits Epping on Wednesday.

BOYS LACROSSE

TRINITY 12,

MILFORD 7

Corey Girouard and Harris Jones both record hat tricks for the Spartans (1-4). Drew Hodges made 18 saves and Chuck Urda had a goal and an assist.

Milford travels to Hollis Brookline on Tuesday.

GIRLS LACROSSE

LONDONDERRY 19,

NASHUA NORTH 4

Kiley O’Brien tallies a hat trick in the Titans (7-3) loss. Lily Brooks (one goal, one assist) and Keira Sice (one goal) played for North. Goalie Samantha Canto made 10 saves.

North visits Londonderry on Thursday.

ALVIRNE 13,

MANCHESTER MEMORIAL/WEST 5

Hailey Rhamalhinho put the Broncos (3-3) on her shoulders scoring nine goals on their way to a win.

Halle Miller scored two goals, while Maddy Nicolosi and Charlotte Moloney had one goal apiece.

Zaira O’Leary played great between the pipe recording 12 saves.

Alvirne visits Campbell on Thursday.

PINKERTON 16,

NASHUA SOUTH 4

The Panthers dropped to 6-4 after their road loss to the Astros. Kaitlyn West led the scoring attack for the locals with two goals and two assists. Soleil Dubois and Kylie Dawe each added a goal.

South will host Pinkerton on Wednesday.

ST. THOMAS 20,

CAMPBELL 7

The Cougars (1-6) offensive struggles result in their fourth straight loss. Bailey Bourque led the Cougars with five goals, while Tiana Boyson and Elayna Montenero each added a goal.

Campbell hosts Milford on Wednesday.

BOYS TENNIS

NASHUA SOUTH 8,

PINKERTON 1

The Panthers (7-1) kept their streak of good play going, winning their fifth straight match.

Singles winners were Santiago Sommorostro (8-0), Abhinav Avvaru (8-1), Atul Phadke (8-0), Akhil Kammila (8-0), Neil Kachappily (8-2) and Praneet Nadella (8-1).

The teams of Benjamin Lambright/Joshua Gao (8-4) and Connor Foti/Mihir Bhalla (8-3) won in doubles action.

South visits Pinkerton on Wednesday.

ALVIRNE 9,

MERRIMACK 0

The Broncos move to 8-2 after the shutout against the Tomahawks (0-7). Singles winners were Peyton Meuse (8-0), Ashton Meuse (8-0), Tom Bondaruk (8-0), Charlie Thomas (8-1), Broady Burke (8-0) and Matt Fitzpatrick (8-0). Doubles winners were Meuse/Meuse (8-0), Bondaruk/Thomas (8-0) and Burke/Jack Ashworth (8-0).

Alvirne hosts Trinity on Tuesday and Merrimack visits Alvirne on Wednesday.

BEDFORD 8,

BISHOP GUERTIN 1

The Bulldogs were a tough matchup for the Cards, who got their lone win from the doubles team of Ryan Wallat and Rizvan Bhattarai, 8-5.

SOUHEGAN 5,

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 4

The Sabers squeak by the Cavaliers. Winning for Souhegan was Joshua Goddard (8-6), James Zeolie (8-4), Matthew Yates (8-4) and Andrew Rosse (8-0). Yates and Rosse won their doubles match 8-6.

HB winners were Bryson Griessch (8-2) and Rory Klauber (8-1) in singles competition. The teams of Will Pesiridis/Griessch (9-7) and Dan Kennedy/Klauber (8-2) won in doubles.

GIRLS TENNIS

NASHUA SOUTH 5,

PINKERTON 4

The Panthers keep on rolling, recording their seventh consecutive win and move to 7-2 on the season.

Singles winners were Priya Shokeen (8-2), Krisha Dani (8-6) and Jenna Lecklider (8-0). Abby Finchum/Kat Tsao (8-3) and Dani/Lecklider (8-6) won in doubles competition.

South hosts Pinkerton on Wednesday.

NASHUA NORTH 8,

LONDONDERRY 1

The Titans (6-3) held down the fort and grabbed a decisive win against the Lancers. Ashley Goh (8-1), Lillian Azevedo (8-3), Sanya Raue (8-5), Caitlyn Mamos (8-3) and Ashely O’Young (8-1) won their singles matches.

Doubles winners were Goh/Andrea Milani (8-6), Azvedo/Mamos (8-3) and Raue/O’Young (8-1).

North visits Londonderry on Wednesday.

ALVIRNE 7,

MERRIMACK 2

The Broncos (2-8) break their four match losing streak by beating the Tomahawks (3-7). Merrimack’s Shu Grosso won her singles match and partnered with Sarah Hardy to win in doubles competition. Alvirne visits Merrimack on Wednesday.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 7,

SOUHEGAN 2

The Cavaliers grabbed a dominant win over the Sabers at home. Singles winners were Lia Eisenberg (8-6), Keira Swart (8-1), Samantha Morse (8-2), Natasha Ferro (8-3) and Hannah Escandon (8-0). Morse/Swart (8-5) and Escandon/Ferro (8-0) won in doubles.
